Anyone commuting with a Rocky Mountain SEA?
 

I was looking at a 2012 Rocky Mountain Metropolis SEA bike on a used bikes forum and it seems to me to be an ideal commuting bike yet when I searched this site, I only found 2 threads loosely mentioning this. Anyone have any experience with Rocky Mountain commuter drop bar bikes? Seems great to me but I am a bit reluctant to bite the bullet given the lack of reviews for this bike.

Probably just a matter of low production numbers. From its website the company appears focused on mountain bikes.

There are a lot of Rocky Mountain commuters in my area. They make solid frames and they last pretty well. I have a 13 year old road frame that was pretty high end and is very nice. They do specialize in MTB but they also branched out.

Do you have photos or links? The name doesn't ring a bell to me.

I would certainly consider this bike.

Yeah, I don't see anything too wrong with it. It appears to have drop bars on a hybrid frame so the sizing might be a little weird compared to road bikes.

Looks like a solid commuter/tourer to me. What price are they asking?

Edit: yeah, definitely funky geometry- make sure to check the geometry data at the very end of that link I posted, or you're going to end up with a bike much bigger than you'd expect :)

Rocky mountains are solid bikes. (I have an old Rocky mountain HAMMER. No joke, that's what it's called.) I'd rock one of their commuting bikes if given the opportunity.

EDIT: I've never heard anyone speak badly of a rocky mountain bike.

Thanks for all the feedback - glad to hear it is positive. Sorry I forgot to post the Metropolis part... As for geometry - I am 6'5" so my geometry is a little unusual. I have other bikes bigger than this so this geometry should be fine for me.

BTW - when you say geometry, what are you typically referring to? For me, I target a TTH of 59 to 61 cm. For flat bar - that is quite upright (ok for flat bar for me) and for drop bar, that is pretty stretched out which again I think is fine seems to suit the purpose to me. I have frames that vary from 66 cm seat tube to 56 cm but to me - that just changes amount of seat post showing. I do prefer a shorter head tube though. I have a bike with a 22.5 cm head tube so I have to invert the stem on that which is kind of ugly.

Just as long as you know to look at top tube length. That frame is very 'compact'- very short literal seat tube lengths compared to their top tube lengths.

59 cm seat tube, 59 cm top tube. Not compact.

In any case, I now own it. Looking forward to commuting Monday to check it out. It is pretty much ready to go as is and it already has fenders. Just going to see if I have a rack that fits - that's the only thing missing.
