That pic was from Gravely point in Arlington, VA right by Reagan National Airport on the Potomac river. I was on my way to the Dentist so I had to get in way early before work. Since I was leaving so early anyways I decided to bring my camera along and take 15 extra minutes to snap some photo's. Its a great way to start the day!

Seagulls in general are always just funny. Big bodies on skinny legs. They are just funny.

Ok, so getting to that point, if I take that bike path on S. Glebe and keep heading towards the airport, will it put me by the Patomac?

I will take pics sometime as I have quite a nice mix on mine - my pet peeve is those stupid pigeons who seem to fly into my spokes. I get possums at night on the way home. Neither of these is as dangerous as the globally universal stupid vehicle driver.

My 6 mile commute is 2 miles of 70's suburbia. It is actually pleasant compared to the newer housing developments. Then about a 1.5 mile descent, hitting 40+, with a glimpse of the
Cascades to the east and the Olympics to the west, weather permitting and if I am brave enough to look up. Then onto the Cedar River trail, parallels the main road for a bit, where it is very gratifying to wave to all the commuters stuck in traffic. Then sweetness, for about 2 miles of pathway that is beautiful, full of Maple and Alder trees. Have seen an eagle, hanging out on a tree branch above the river, waiting for his salmon breakfast. Seen one deer and one bunny.

But then the last half-mile is a sprint in traffic to the bus stop.

Oh, bragging Vancouverites LOVE these threads.

Quick Commute: 14 kilometres, 40 minutes. English Bay Seawall, Burrard Street Bridge over False Creek, the low-traffic Cypress bike route through Vancouver's schwanky west side, workplace on the Fraser River.

Long Commute: 40 kilometres, 1 hour & 45 minutes. English Bay, False Creek Seawall, Granville Island, Vanier Park (where the early-morning rowers are carrying their boats to the water) Kitsilano Beach, Jericho Beach (watch the sunrise) through the west side, down to Riverside Park (don't know HOW they came up with the name for this park; probably one of the homesteading families around here), workplace on the Fraser River.

Best sightings: blue herons, bald eagles, seals, coyotes.

Colorado Springs, Colo. 14.9 miles each way, longer if I take the trail. Ride down Nevada Ave. by all the older houses in town as the sun comes up. Dew is on the lawns and traffic is non-existent. One can smell the pancakes at the diner as I ride by, then the coffee from the downtown coffee houses. If I take the trail, I sometimes forget where I am as it is like riding through uncharted woods (until you get to the end by the power plant). Can't think of a better way to start a day.

Honolulu, Hawaii: A study in extremes. Beachs and blue sky and palm trees and hot chicks in bikinis, then construction and fat tourists and industrial parks.

My ride is mainly beautiful, but I'm too busy concentrating on riding fast and safe to look at the scenery.

If you mean my "ride" then its beautiful. Kona JTS with a nice black/blue color combo that really makes me smile. If you mean the scenery on the way to work....road construction, corn-field and suburbia = boring.

It sounds like you are refering to the W&OD/Four mile run trail near Shirlington. The trail gets tricky in that area because it crosses 395. There is a raised footbridge that has a ramp for bicycle traffic, but it is not easy to find and there are no good signs that mark the way. For some help with this check out this link:

https://www.waba.org/new/paths/index.php

Feel free to PM me if you are stumped.

I ride along the Potomac River almost everyday. It's really nice on that stretch on a quiet and calm night. If there's no wind and the water is clear, you can get a nice reflection of some of the monuments in DC from the Virginia side. In the winter, the geese are always around. Their calling card isn't so nice, but they are cool.

i ride in denver from downtown neighborhood to the north side of the tech center (boring business park in southeast Denver).

I use straight side streets that are near main streets like Colorado and Evans. The route near my home in Congress Park heads through Cherry Creek North shopping area and mall, which is great in the morning because it's quiet, peaceful, business owners opening up their small stores, then over Cherry Creek down to DU area, cut over near University Hills and up Dahlia and Happy Canyon.

My ride is all streets, but pretty wide, and steady traffic but not many maniacs, (also go by about 8 schools, so helps slow people down). It's definetly best in my neighborhood with wide streets, really old brick homes with big lawns and huge porches.

Cherry Creek Mall traffic is a little hairy sometimes, but there's a nice library in Cherry Creek north I visit a lot on the way home.

i used to live at 8th and logan in Denver, so my route would go the length of washington park, then through University of Denver.

Like most some of both. First half of my commute is on a newly constructed bike path. 4 miles of river, trees, nutria, squirrles, cute joggers and other commuters. When it rains it usually just the trees and me.
The other half I cross over the tracks (literaly) and I cruise through a very low rent area on my way to our office in the industrail park. Lots of over weight people sitting on porches smoking, yards with over grown grass, chain link fences, the works. Lucky I only cruise through that area for about a mile then I'm in the industrial park... it's not pretty but it feels safe. lol.

Booorrring with a capital B. Let's see on my commute you see asphalt, I-285, some office buildings, the Weather Channel, a CVS, and a Fridays. Everything that's wrong with suburbia in one trip.

I look forward to these 2 nutty miniature Collies that I pass by on my ride home. They run back and forth on the front lawn of a house. They have worn a path in the grass from one side of the lawn to the other. They are too funny. Freaking Bonkers is what they are, yapping away caught in a cycle of compulsive behaviour. It makes my day.
