Emergency appendectomy kept me off a bike for almost a month.

Nevertheless, as KB says, public transportation is a pretty good option. I use buses and legs when I don't feel like cycling. Be happy that you are being far, far more creative than the car owner whose only creativity is finding a way to earn the extra dollars to pay for their transport options.

I hear ya - there's worse things. I actually got a seat today (F train in Queens, NY - whoo-hoo!) and could read a whole chapter before work. But I was thinking of the irony - it's usually tough to get started commuting by bike, whether for the first time of after a lay-off....but once you're in the swing it's soooo much better than driving or mass transit. You will notice it after riding regularly......I know I am noticeably grumpier at work today than I was the rest of the week.

Another plus - it rained in NYC this morning; if I can't ride anyway, I sure don't mind a rainy day!!

Then again we're supposed to run a 10K tomorrow on LI - hope it warms/dries up a little by then! brrrr!
