Ok ... calling all slackers .... please move to Raleigh and start guarding BOB on his commute. People with guns should be welcome. He needs a paceline and entourage ala Forest Gump.

10 days to go

Official end date is May 12th! 1 1/2 weeks to go till payday. The weather has been amazing. My biggest worry now is getting taken out by a car.

Almost there!

I'd be surprised if at least one local news outlet wasn't interested in a feel-good story to finish off the broadcast.

I think he actually lives in Setauket, NY so slackers should move there, bring bikes and guns and join Bob.

This is the first time I have read this thread. I hope I don't say anything that's been said too many times already (b/c I didn't read every post) but hey man...you could seriously write a book, go on Oprah (or Letterman, preferably), heck...they could make an embellished movie about you, sir.

I rode all the way through the winter here in KS b/c someone said that I couldn't do it. It was never really that bad. No more than 8-10" of snow on the ground. Not too much ice. The weather was hardly ever below zero. Heck...I should have held out for some money, eh?

Congrat's...I know you'll make it!

Bob's saga here is especially interesting because of all the bikes he bought and tried. That shows he went through some trials and tribulations. Also, he was very preoccupied--or even obsessed--with getting the right bike(s) to make this work.

The fact that he had to work night shifts in a NYC winter is also of interest. I think Bob needs to submit an article to Reader's Digest, at the least.

I'd love to see his as the first person Katie Curic interviews on her new 60 minutes gig!

Guns would probably be illegal. They don't like guns much in NY.

Keep it up Bob! The other morning I woke up and thought "ugh, I really don't want to ride today" than I remembered this post and thought "if that guy can ride every single day regardless of the weather, damnit, I can take my lazy butt in too!" Thanks for the motivation. Your story is great.

Now wait just a minute, here. Yeah, Bob is lucky that he got someone to pay him for doing this (and he'll be even luckier if the guy actually does!), but how about those of us that ride every single day regardless of the weather, damnit, for no money?! We aren't motivating to you??!!

I would love to see Bob post about the bikes he tried and the pros and cons of each bike. I am on my first bike I use for commuting and am not sure it is the one.

I do hope the guy who made the bet comes through when Bob finishes of his year.

Go Bob you are almost there!

I think Bob has already won - better health and mood. The cash is gravy. Hey Bob - do you ever extend your ride past work? One reason I commute is to get some miles in that I can't find free time for.
