Petzl Myo xp 3Watt LED
I'm going to pick up a Petzl Myo XP today primarily for use on extended Brevets (300, 400, 600 & 1200K). Just wondering if anyone has one for commute use, and how they rigged it-helmet vs some type of handlebar/bike attachment.
-I had initially wanted to use my cateye microhalogen (5W,6V), overvolted with Li-Ion rechargeables, but spare bulbs are required for events (as they should be), and I simply cannot locate ANY spares. Cateye doese not carry them any more (they have the common 2.4W). Altering common bayonet type bulbs to fit (as folks suggested in the total geekiness thread) does not work either. This is still a great setup for my commute, untill I burn out the current bulb. |
Do you think that a single 3W light will be enough? How much night riding do you do, with no street lights?
|
3 Watts is a LOT from an LED. They are way more efficient than filiment style bulds, and even flouresents. I wonder if the beam pattern is going to be good for riding though. The specs look really good, in terms of battery life-have you tried one out?

I've done a couple 24hour road events-and the 1Watt LED wouldn't be enough (for me). 3W will be plenty. |
I bought one this afternoon (had to call several outfitters-most had sold out). These are super nice, plus it straps to my helmet well. I'll post a review after I've used it for a bit of nite rides.
First impression-it doesn't seem like 3W (2perhaps)-but it might be my eyes not being able to tell the difference. |
How about making your own? I can teach you how.... :D
