Basta Zoom Auto is my favourite. Not the strongest, but has a nice auto-on/off feature and low-battery warning. Has survived my commutes well. Decent battery life.

Another endorsement for the B&M tail lights. My Toplight Line + has lived through 5 years of all-weather commuting. I run a dyno setup but would anticipate that any of their products are up to the task.

I have one of these rack mounts bolted to the rear of a Racktime rack with a Planet Bike old style Superflash (using AA batteries) - works well and hasn't come loose in regular usage. The light did break open once when I had a small crash, though.

Why would someone buy a 1/2 watt PB light for $30, when the 2W Hotshot can be had for cheaper? And the Hotshot Pro80 (with a much wider beam pattern) is only $12-$13 more?

+1, I have a road-found hotshot, and bought that mount for it. My rack only has a vertical tab for mounting lights, so I used just 1 bolt in the center. Also because of limited clearance with my 700x50 tires, I had to mount it upside down. No problem, the light is still very secure (and even a little difficult to get out). Plus the hotshot is unbelievably bright, I can't recommend it enough. Even though I'm a cheapskate, and only have this one because my wife found it on the road, if I lost it, I would buy another.

Also, customer service story, the piece of rubber that is the cover for the two control switches (it is 'the buttons', as you push the switches through the rubber) unaccountably fell out of my light last week! I emailed cygolite asking to buy some replacements, and a preemptive replacement cover for the usb port, and within a few hours they dropped in the mail for me 2 button covers and 1 usb cover -- free! Should arrive today or tomorrow.


Somebody else also recommended Planet Bike Blinky 5, there is at least one packaging of it that includes a rack mount, like this. I have used that in the past, and it is also fine (just not as awesome as the hotshot).

Get the new Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150 and buy the Hotshot rack mount for $5 on eBay (it works with the Pro 150 according to Cygolite). The Hotshot Pro 150 is the best taillight you can buy for under ~$50. I run one on my e-bike and my $200 Dinotte 300R isn't that much better if I'm honest.

WHAT! Dang I just got 2 of the Pro80's this past Christmas. Didn't know they had another new one out. Now I want those!! :P

*edit* must be pretty new. Only one seller has them on Amazon, and it has a low review from only 1 person because of an issue with the mount. I sure hope they didn't redesign them, because I think the Hotshot mounts are great, and I like that I can interchange the lights with all the mounts on all our bikes.

Yes, the Hotshot Pro 150 just started shipping in the last month or two. There's also the Niterider Solas 150 which is presumably using the same LED but different optics (wider beam than the Hotshot but not as bright on-axis.) I got an Axiom Pulse 60 in June which I thought was the best light <$50 at the time and somebody measured the pulses on the Pro 150 as 3X brighter than the Pulse 60. I don't think the mount has changed since Cygolite support says the 'old' Hotshot rack mount works with the Pro 150.

My Koga came with a B&M 4D Toplight senso, when I Got the hub Dynamo I replaced It with the 4D Senso+

Big red light able to be easily seen, in Senso Mode it comes on in the dark when you start moving,

in the Off position the + version, it still lights from the dynamo but goes off when you stop..

their other lights add a capacitor, that charges up , then it stays on at stops.. with out battery power..

German lights dont blink But the battery 4D did blink in a day time tunnel situation. left on in S mode, riding into a tunnel
then riding back out in the daylight again..

I bought a short section of aluminum tubing that was the same diameter as my seat-post. I bolted the aluminum to my rack and then used the mounting hardware that came with the light/reflectors.

Nice, I did a similar thing with a piece of plastic electrical conduit, to mount a Hotshot mount on the back of my trailer, in place of the stock reflector. One of the benefits of getting the Hotshot rack mount, however, is that it leaves the other 2 mounts that came with the light, free to mount onto other bikes in the household.

Smart brand are much cheaper than B&M but seem to work as well.

I can't see how you bolted the tube to your rack. Can you describe or supply another picture, please?

What I did for my trailer was to drill a hole in one side of the tube for each bolt, and a larger hole in the opposite side of each bolt hole, to give enough room for a screwdriver to fit inside to tighten the bolt. That way the bolts tighten on just the wall of the pipe only, instead of going all the way through and crushing the pipe as they're tightened. I think I got the idea from someone else on here.

Sorry, in my case it's on my cargo trailer that has a little bracket with 2 holes where a reflector was originally.

On a rack it should be able to attach to any hole facing the rear.

I drilled holes in the tubing to match and mounted the tube flat against the plate.

I added a third hole at the bottom of the tube to run an extra bolt through. This serves the purpose of keeping the light from slipping off the bottom of the cut piece of tube.
Also added was a couple wraps with reflective tape.

I have a Real Lite from RealLITE Large Flashing Bicycle Lights - Red * Gold Yellow Amber - 18 LED blinky using 4 batteries.
It comes with a seat post mount. The light weighs at least 12 oz.
They sell a rack mount bracket, but it didn't look like it would work on my rack.
My wonderful spouse fabricated a bracket to attach to my rack, using aluminum bar stock.

They really mean it with the lifetime warranty.

I have used a Cateye Reflex, which came with a rack mount, for several years and am very happy with it. Very reliable, bright and tough and gets great battery life.
