Quite uneventful, from the motorists' point of view. :) :p I didn't see a couple of potholes, though.

Good ride this AM. dry, with lots of grit on the roads.
Between flu and other stuff I only rode 1 day last week, but I'm back now! |
I took today off. It's supposed to snow later on. So didn't want to get caught in it with the GWB closed. I had a good run to the train, though. Didn't know I could do two blocks in two minutes. Sheesh...
|
Ride was pretty good this morning. Little wind and good temps. Woke up to a dry house though and my sinuses are killing me. Only missed one commute in January.. if can keep it up will be on track for the year goal.
|
27 degrees and breezy, but it still felt good to ride this morning. Met the only other fellow bike commuter from my building on the way in today. We rode for the last mile together and chatted. It's nice to have human contact during cold dark rides in, that's for sure.
|
Low 30s was warming up toward 40 on the ride in. A pleasant ride as it seems to be dry this week. Last week we had a lot of overnight rain which meant wet roads which means dirty bike. I gave it a good cleaning over the weekend and it is nice to see it holding out so far.
|
No ride today. Crashed on the way home yesterday afternoon and the rear wheel got out of true big time. So the ebike is in the shop right now and I'll probably be picking it up in a few hours. Biggest injury was to my pride. Didn't make it 1 year crash free.
|
TheNormanRider : Crashing sucks. Glad you're OK.
31°F with a steady 15 mph headwind. Lots and lots of ice from yesterday's partial thaw. In fact they announced on the radio about one particular interstate off-ramp that was backed up because cars couldn't make it up the incline due to the ice. Thankfully I was on a different route with studded tires and didn't have any trouble. |
39F this morning, that's 21 degrees warmer than yesterday! But the winds are back - 17+mph winds from the west. You westerly states can keep your dang wind. I think I prefer the 18 degree temps

35F, dry, clouds clearing

27F when I left the house this morning! And it's snowing now, but I gather it isn't supposed to get too bad. I might leave early if FedEx comes early; waiting for a package.
My 25 minute ride from the station to my house is now perfectly timed with dusk; the sun set a couple minutes before I got off the train yesterday, so as I got on my bike it was basically still daylight. Halfway home I noticed a bright moon up in the western sky; by the time I was home, it was dark. |
It was a nice ride the last few days, the weather has been really nice and clear.
Here are a few pictures from the last few days. https://goo.gl/photos/tzdirkPYbAbLeCcR8 One from Monday, the day I started my new teaching job for the rest of the school year! I am teaching only mornings, Science 10 and a Support Teacher for grade 8s. I only work until lunch, which will be nice to allow me to relax and take care of my body and health. Just some photos from the last few days. The other shots are from the ferry to Vancouver this morning. Two looking east at the North Shore mountains in the morning. Two looking west at sunset towards Vancouver Island. Then there is one where you can see the moon and faintly to right of the moon you can see Venus. Mars is there but didn't show up, nor did I take a good photo once it got darker. I was in Vancouver for my annual Vascular follow up, I had a Vascular Ultrasound and then met with my surgeon. The results were good and my blood flow is great all things considered. Though he wants my CT angiogram pushed up so he can take a look at blood flow to assist in a diagnosis for the infections. Since about December 9th +/- a day I have only not been on antibiotics for an infection. Sunday I had another infection flare up in the same area, unless something happens tonight and it starts getting better I will be off the ER after school in order to get more IVs and the wound drained and swabbed. This muscle flap surgery that would help clean up the problem area is looking better and better. Today my surgeon even made feel less concerned for the risk of a poor outcome, but he did say he would likely have to harvest veins from my arm. So more things to think about. The final picture is of my new hobby, fish tanks. My wife sees it as a cycling replacement but I don't think she realizes how much I still think about cycling. With that said on my first day to work Monday I was thinking this is only 10.0 km, totally do able. Mostly flat, a few more narrow roads, all roads I have ridden before. Okay time to lesson plan. |
Nice photos joeyduck and congrats on the teaching position. I hope the docs can get things figured out.
Cool, normal ride in this morning for me. I did stop for a sunrise photo. I couldn't find a decent spot where the brilliant colors weren't mostly blocked by trees. Then I saw the power line break and stopped. I usually don't like power lines in photos, but this one seemed okay to me. https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t5...OTkyNw%3D%3D.2 |
Tundra_Man: Thanks! I need a new rear rim, so now riding the beater bike, GMC Denali, until I can afford the repair.
39F this morning, with a slight N/NW breeze. Uneventful ride to the office, but I did see a lot of police cruisers on the road. The shift change must be at 6 am I'm guessing, because I was on the street by 5:30. |

Today is my last bike commute as I'm retiring tomorrow and will need to drive so I can clear out my office. The morning ride was tough, with temperatures about 30 F and a stiff NW wind. It was a slow commute due to the cold, wind and my legs still tired from a long ride on Saturday. (My annual birthday ride, 63 miles this year!) Unfortunately, the ride home is likely to be just as tough as I'll be riding into the wind most of the way and the forecast is calling for 30 mph gusts.
Yesterday was pretty amazing. Darn near perfect ride home with a tailwind, 68°F and I made it home before dark. Woohoo! I also found out yesterday that I got a raise at work, without even asking! :thumb: |
joeyduck if those were the views on my way to work I'm not sure I'd make it! 35F this morning and the winds have died down, ahhhhhh

First flat of the year last night, which was disappointing because I'd gotten out with some daylight left and it was really nice. The valve on the replacement tube was bollixed so I had to do a regular patch, and I take my time with that because I dislike re-doing a patch a few miles later or at home. By the time that was done it was dark and cooling off.
On the bright side it should be another beautiful day for my ride home today. I spied a Great Blue Heron this morning, sitting on a log in the middle of the creek. They're usually pretty flighty so that's rare for me to see one, except flying away in the distance. This one had unusual coloring on his head - I wish I'd stopped for a photo. |

The commute this morning was a nice uneventful ride with the temp at 24f degrees. Hopefully the afternoon ride home will be just as nice.
|
Cooler this morning, -13C/9F, with a windchill of -18C/0F. However, I was dressed comfortably and arrived without incident. There has been very little snow since late December, a dusting here and there, so the roads are clear, although the dumps of snow in early December are still visible as high snowbanks on the sides of the roads. I feel safe riding on the side of the road as there is little reason, i.e., no snow or ice on the road, for cars to slip and slide.
|
Warm enough to leave the long tights at home this morning and ride in shorts. A high of 62F today, but then only 46F for tomorrow's high. Got a couple of extra miles in this morning for 15 total.
|
I guess I've gotten too used to the unseasonably warm temps, 21F this morning, 12 with windchill was not fun. Maybe if it stayed this way more than a day I could re-adapt?!

I agree. We had similar temps here this morning, which I was dressed for, but still takes the body a day or so to get used to again.
