Another nice commute in today with the temp at 60f degrees and overcast skies.

Yay for Friday and it is fathers' day this Sunday so, to all you dad's Happy Father's day!

mgw4jc 06-16-17 06:19 AM

Felt pretty warm today. I took it a bit slower to not get so sweaty. I rode easy for the last couple of miles to try and cool down. Not sure if it helped, but the breeze felt nice.

Double yay for Friday! I had a short week due to traveling on Monday, but still glad the weekend is here again.

jrickards 06-16-17 06:39 AM

Mild, 15C/59F, but mist that felt like I was riding through a cloud so I was a bit wet when I arrived at work.

Forecast for thundershowers today but it is forecast for about noon so I should be fine to ride home at the end of the day without encountering it, although, who knows.

I had planned that yesterday, I would ride my road bike on a 42km/26mi ride into work and then leave work at noon so I could do it again to go home and be showered and ready to pickup my wife from work at 2 so that she could go to her doctor's appointment but the forecast was for thundershowers from about noon to 3pm, during my ride home so I decided just to drive in. In the end, at about 10am, there was a bit of rain, no thundershowers and sunny for the rest of the day. Therefore, I'm not confident in weather forecasts, LOL.

Today they re-opened a 1/2 mile stretch of the MUP that had been closed for a few months for repair, so I got to ride on the brand new pavement. In addition to new pavement without potholes and cracks, the trail was much straighter (previously it had some pretty sharp curves woven through trees), there was a brand new bridge made out of concrete (old one was very worn wood) and they raised the trail about a foot and put in culverts. This area would often be underwater for a long time after any significant rain, and during the winter was by far the iciest stretch of the MUP.

Glad to have the trail open again. When the MUP was closed, the detour route was about 1/2 mile longer (which I didn't mind so much) and took me down a major traffic artery that was busy and fast (which I did mind so much.)

HardyWeinberg 06-16-17 11:07 AM

54F, cloudy. No rain at least. Rode home yesterday in the mist leaving my coat in the backpack, but it turned to legit rain the last 2 miles so I pulled over and put the coat on for the home stretch.

Clouds today, chance of rain, but the percentages according to weather.gov were front-loaded and it wasn't raining early when the percentage was high so I left the coat at home.

71 and low humidity this morning. I've had a few days off the bike, so my legs were fresh this morning. Beautiful ride in, and I was feeling very comfortable on the bike.
I am going to try to ride every day this week, but that might not be possible. Tropical system in the Gulf= really unpleasant conditions later on this week.

PanoramicPixel 06-19-17 06:21 AM

Hot with heavy rain storm today. But thankfully it lightened up before the ride home. First rain for my new bike.

jrickards 06-19-17 06:41 AM

I wasn't feeling so well when I woke up, so I planned to either wake up my son for a ride into work or just take the bus. Then I remembered that there is construction, starting today for the next 3 weeks, on the road going to my office building that will require a 2km detour around it and down from 2 lanes to 1 lane for part of it so I decided that cycling in would be best because I could pass the lineup of cars on the paved shoulder, although I would still have to go the same additional distance as them. In the end, not all of the setup for the construction had been completed so although the detour was in effect, there were still 2 lanes.

Mild, 15C/59F, partly cloudy but strong breeze.

mgw4jc 06-19-17 07:12 AM

High humidity and high dew point days are here for a while. Pretty sticky coming in.

Yesterday evening I decided to go out for a quick fun ride. Just 16 miles, but it felt nice to ride sans-commuting stuff. I turned north on one road and discovered a nice tail wind. I had already battled the head wind and this was taking me home. I hit 24.5mph for one mile and 21+ for the next two miles! Wheee!

arsprod 06-19-17 08:39 AM

It's cooled off quite a bit, barely 60F this morning with threats of rain throughout the week.

groovestew 06-19-17 08:57 AM

Pleasant ride in on the fixie, sunny, cool, slight breeze. Looks like a nice week ahead. Hoping to break the trend of only bike-commuting once a week. Totally missed last week due to travel.

Lars Honeytoast 06-19-17 09:01 AM

Hot today with the sun pounding down and no cloud coverage at all, but at least with some wind. Looking forward to the predicted thunderstorms for the the rest of the week to cool things down.

Darth Lefty 06-19-17 10:12 AM

I'm sitting it out this week. That includes my idea of walking to work on the solstice. The forecast is 107-110F all week, peaking each day right around home time. I don't even want to try to ride in and back out at lunch, it's 90F already before 9:30

essiemyra 06-20-17 05:01 AM

A very pleasant uneventful commute this am. Though I could not find my rear light. I have been having issues with it staying attached to the bike since I bought it a few weeks ago. I rode without a rear light. I felt uncomfortable with out it. I found it in my bike bag at work after taking a shower. I need to find a way to make it stay attached.

Jadesfire 06-20-17 05:57 AM

No ride this morning, tropical storm weather is predicted to start today/later this afternoon and I'm not riding in 30-40mph gusts :). Mid-90s for the ride home yesterday and the home stretch doesn't have much shade, so I overheated during the last 5 miles. But, no cramps (thanks, Nuun), no mechanical issues, and nothing lodged in my eye (all problems from last week)! Success!

mgw4jc 06-20-17 06:39 AM

A good ride this morning. Warm and humid, but the high is only supposed to be 80F somehow. No major rain forecast, but I guess it will be cloudy enough to keep it cooler.

I stopped to take this photo on the way in. Just a creek running higher than normal due to recent rains.

Degrees? Fahrenheit? But it's a dry heat, right?!

The opposite here - almost chilly this morning, under 60. Yesterday evening the winds were horrendous - like bending trees windy. Oddly enough I really didn't feel it because mostly a crosswind from the west which for me is mostly blocked by stuff.

esmith2039 06-20-17 06:57 AM

Upper 60's this morning.. no complaints! Easier ride than expected since I gave blood yesterday. That ride last night was a bit difficult though!

Amitoj 06-20-17 07:01 AM

Feeling a bit under the weather for the past two days, had to skip commuting by bike :(
I don't like that.

webbach 06-20-17 07:24 AM

Haven't bike commuted in...10 years?

Today I changed that. Drove down to a park on the riverside MUP and commuted the 6 and a half miles from there. I used a hard tail Haro mountain bike, only commuter mod is a front handlebar bag; still on knobbies. I'd like to have something more upright and with less rolling resistance (and fenders!) but for now this will be ok. If I do it much more I'll either mod the bike or get something different.

Great job getting back to it!

I can confirm. It's hot here in Sacramento. However, I rode this morning. It should be pretty gnarly this afternoon. I tried to explain to my colleagues that I need to have at least 1 rainy day and 1 really hot day to feel complete as a bicycle commuter. They've all offered me a ride home.

ptempel 06-20-17 12:10 PM

^ Yikes! 106F today and 108F tomorrow in Sacramento.

Yeah, I'd probably throw in the towel after 100F as well. It was an oven the last time riding in 96F here last week. At least the humidity was low? I rode from home today. Should be nice weather. But my backside says that I need some cream on it. :(

sunvalleylaw 06-20-17 06:14 PM

Good one today. First real warm one. Road the fast bike today. I guess you could call it vintage maybe. It is a 2004 frame. I love my steel Davidson, but also love this Alu and carbon Merckx. Strong, quiet, and fast. Fun for light days where I only have a pack. :) Did my normal commute along the rails to trails path and Big Wood River today. Not too windy.

Wunderground said 119.9 F 8% humidity when I left work. So yeah, dry heat. I wasn't the only cyclist out there either.

acidfast7 06-21-17 02:47 AM

Excellent ... heatwave today (almost +30C) ... stopped by the beach for a swim and an ice cream ... showered and went into work.
