My sand is worn out!

I was sandblasting 2 frames yesterday and I found the process to next slower and slower. I have to attribute it to the blast media"wearing out ". So just as sandpaper wears apparently so does sandblast media. I did not want to stop and go out and buy fresh so I muddled through.
At least the frames are primed!

That's impressive to recycle your blast media, when I have done this at friends' places they always just sweep it up and throw it out (or sweep it aside and leave it there)


edit: does recycled blast media get diluted with paint or whatever other fragments come off the frame together with the sand?

Could be, if you are carrying sand to and from work. If so, might I suggest leaving it at work or home, whichever place it is needed most? Or perhaps buying sand for both locations?

True, I hadn't thought of that. Another possibility is commuting to/from a job that involves filling sandbags.

I heard a joke/story about a little old mexican man that for years would cross the border into the US with a bicycle loaded down with bags full of sand. The customs officials got pretty tired of having to search through all his sand and verify there were no drugs or guns hidden inside. Eventually the man stopped coming, and they figured he died of old age. But one day an officer ran into him at a bar, and asked him "Hey, all those years, we knew you had to be smuggling something, but couldn't ever find out what it was -- what was it?"

Of course, you know the punchline already, the old man said "Bicycles"

Your commuter doesn't have a sand dispenser for icy roads? I'm sporting one of these next ice storm. I fell twice yesterday morning on the black ice.

My problem is my sand dispenser is on the back of the bike, so I have to convert it to fixie and learn to ride backwards
