What Do You Think Of This New All-In-One Bike Gizmo?
It appears to be one small gadget that combines all the stuff bicycle techies want. Not my cup of tea, but I thought I'd share the link:
Cycling computer lacks the kitchen sink, but has just about everything else

I am not a tech guy, by any means, but I would love to have something similar to this product, if everything worked well, and it was much cheaper! I don't like to use my phone for gps/tracking/speedometer when on the bike. I use a high output headlight on a regular bases. And I have really wanted to incorporate a video camera onto my bike. This would cover all three, in a slim package. I just can't see spending $300 on one...

The devil is in the software details. It's got to be hard to compete with Garmin/Strava

I'm glad it can send a message when the cyclist crashes... because someone is bound to with a 4" touchscreen in front of them!

Intriguing. I can see something like this catching on for a niche market. With technology getting smarter and smaller, the size of the hardware in comparison to its capabilities can only get better.
Personally, it seems kind of bulky to me, but how else can you push out 1200 lumens without.
Without looking at the actual way it operates, I can only guess that the user interface could handle so many tasks on one screen. For a roadie, we can afford to look at a screen for all but 2-4 seconds before having to look back up. i wouldn't suspect that'd be enough time to find the lights if the screen is set on your speed and HR, or your music, or weather, etc.
That said, it looks promising. I'm willing to wait 5 years until the concept becomes more refined.

Let me know when they add an invisibility cloak and a decent replicator.

I think for the price it seems to deliver a lot. I am curious about the battery life. There's a lot going, especially with a 1200 lumen light, or 2. I don't have a smart phone or GPS computer, so if it worked well I would definitely consider one.
Maybe you can get the kindle app and read some books while riding. . .

Interesting.
I recently found a "LIMITS" power meter.
Limits | Cycling is about Pushing Your Limits, so are we!
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/l...ter-smart--3#/
I was looking for a SPD compatible pedal based power meter. I am a little worried about the "Q-factor". We'll see how it works.
So, now I need a good head unit. Something like a Garmin 820 costs an arm and a leg.
The light would be good for emergency use, but I don't really want to discharge EVERYTHING to run a headlamp, unless it takes an external battery.
'The Camera specs seem a bit terse. What is the frame rate and resolution? Memory? MicroSD?
Speakers, Microphone, Phone. The natural adaptation is a noise cancelling hands-free phone mode.

Auditory Books on Tape?
Anyway, what it probably needs is real-time recharging from external battery packs.
As mentioned elsewhere, speed/elevation (GPS) + micro-acceleration should help with estimating power. Maybe an inclinometer.

The absolutely LAST things I'd ever combine are headlights and cellphone.
Lights maxing out batteries is fairly common, and I wonder how one might call for help if stuck in Ninja mode. But I'm the lest guyh to ask, since the only electricals I use on the bike are my lights.
But if I did opt to carry more gadgets, I don't know that I'd want them all in one $300 basket.

Another interest-free-loan based project. All that stuff into a $300 gadget? Yea. Right. $450? Yea right.
What is doubly funny the gadget is STILL in development...and it is already using an obsolete Android OS, that lets be honest here, will never be maintained or updated.

It appears to be using a standard cell phone screen. When compared to a garmin:
Good:
Larger
Bad:
fragile
will probably be hard to read in some light.
uses more power

I'm not sure that I need to be that connected to ride my bicycle to work. I know the way, don't need GPS. If I focus on the road/trail rather than a screen and speakers, I'll probably avoid the crashes and other situations where I need to call in an emergency.

Well, I think this should have been posted in the electronics subforum or at least the touring subforum. Lots of people apparently use cellphones when touring. With GPS mapping software, one could always pull over for directions. I don't have a smartphone, so this looks attractive to me. However, I will wait for the 2.0 model to work out bugs, improve battery life, and reduce price before investing in vaporware.

Different gadgets that provide these features go obsolete at different rates. That's why I wouldn't want an integrated device.

I'm not sure I put out enough watts to power that thing.

Their web page claims it will have an 8000mAh battery. Even so, I'm trying to picture a ride where I am using the dual 1200 lumen lights, recording data using GPS, connecting to my phone via Bluetooth, playing music, capturing video and displaying stats on the LED screen. How far would I get before the battery died? I think just the lights would kill that in under two hours.
What I think is great about this is that the innovation space is being explored. The maker-oriented computing products coming out now, along with battery and LED technology improving at the rate it is, open up a huge realm of possibilities. Eventually someone is going to figure out the right formula, and eventually something like this will be possible for $300.

Good point, @andy k. I think it will have to be modular. Notice how everyone accessorizes their bike differently from everyone else. Needs vary, space is limited, and tolerance for weight is limited. So maybe the future bike will have a built in power cable running front to back, maybe it will have a mounting place for a screen, maybe it will have a standard headlight mount, but the LEDs and screens and power sources have to vary according to user preference.
