Glove find for $10

I've been using these for riding. They even have a soft area to wipe your nose... Additionally, you can use them on your phone screens.

Firm Grip Large General Purpose Gloves-2001L - The Home Depot

mcours2006 02-11-17 04:40 PM

I bought a similar pair from Walmart. On the surface they looked okay, but they aren't all that warm for temps lower than about 10*C.

joeyduck 02-11-17 04:44 PM

I second the firm grip gloves. I got mine in the middle of a traffic circle though.

They have proved to be a nice glove all around.

I'm glad to know where you can get them since they just worn out in my finger tips.

They aren't great for cold and wet though.

I agree these are not warm gloves. My warm gloves are fleece lined wool gloves with a long cuff that goes over my coat sleeves well.

I have mittens that also have the inductance feature to use a smartphone. The ability wore out after a year. No big deal, but worth remembering.

3 bucks more but brighter and more reflective. I'm surprised how warm they kept my hands in the cooler weather and yet they didn't make my hands sweat in the hot weather.

Home Depot also sells a cut-off glove by Grease Monkey for $9.99.

That is what I use for commuting. Hi vis hands and reflectors. I know traffic can see me when I give hand signals in any weather.

For winter I have a larger size that I use a liner under, in the summer I have a pair I cut the finger tips off of. Works for me.

I liked these so much that I bought another pair after I lost the first pair after having them for a short while.

Will have to try those Kobalt ones above. Does the stitching last? That was my problem with the Firm Grip gloves I also used to have in addition to the OP. I'd still be wearing them if the stitching didn't give out on a few fingers. For now I'm trying a thin glove from Perl Izumi. So far so good.

Edit: These were closer to the ones that I had. Wife originally bought them for me.

+100!

I have many Firm Grip gloves, all of which I found in the road, none of which match each other. I prefer their construction and fit to Kobalt or Mechanix, which I also have some of.

For colder than 45 or so, I switch to thinsulate (fleece) gloves.

For colder than 35, and/or rainy, I switch to ski gloves.

For above 60, I don't wear gloves.

No gloves in the warm weather? I need at least open finger gloves since my hands can get sweaty. And that can make the brake hoods feel sticky. Plus I still like to wipe my brow with the right hand and my nose after a snot rocket with the left. Hope I don't get them confused... :D

The stitching has been holding up fine in mine, I've had them about 6 months.

I bought a similar pair (different brand). They are work gloves and what I like about them is that the fingers and palms are padded but the backs are not making them a nice snug fit (not bulky). They have made very good gloves for cooler weather cycling (60 degrees or cooler). Under 40 degrees and you will want something warmer. Oh, and mine are bright yellow so they look like biking gloves.

Chuck Naill 02-13-17 06:39 PM

If anyone finds these in the road they belong to me....just saying. :)

those look good for warmer weather. fit is so important to me, can't buy them online. I did that once & they weren't quite right so now they sit as emergency gloves in my kids' car. need to replace my winter 'over' glove (that I use w my favorite liners). went to 2 stores last night & couldn't find one large enough. got to hit a cpl more & better stores I guess
