commuting survey - alternative transportation
A fellow of mine is doing an academic study to better understand bike commuting and alternative transportation, if you have 5 mins I'm sure he would appreciate your input in this survey.

I did it, but it's not easy. The questions don't seem relevant. I mean, "If (blah blah blah), would you commute by bike?" Of course I would. I commute by bike without it.

Thanks, yeah , I think dude is casting his net a bit wider to all alternate forms of commuting. Maybe not specifically bike. But I figured a good place to represent!

I did the survey also. I'm not really sure what the survey is trying to gauge.
|
Can't this fella ask his own questions?

since his proposal wasn't the straw that would push me over. |

I probably should have said 'yes' to the actual question of the poll, for your reason, but I said 'no'
since his proposal wasn't the straw that would push me over. I singled out that question because I remembered it. But there were many equally perplexing questions. How much time do I spend exercising? Uh, I don't exercise. If I spend five hours on my bike, riding to the station &c, does that count? |
I answered no, because a workplace program would not increase the amount I commute by bike. I already have bike parking in my office.
|
I said yes, if they did these things I would commute by bicycle. However, I already commute by bicycle. About the only thing, related to bike facilities, that would stop me from commuting by bicycle is if I were required to use the bicycle parking area.
The bike parking at my school is in an entirely unobserved area. The teachers park our bicycles in the classrooms. It helps prevent problems. |
I said "yes", because a workplace wellness program, annoying as it might be, would not discourage me from riding every day, year-round

Terribly worded survey. Sorry, but this was a waste of time.
|
As someone in the research field, I have to say this was a poorly designed survey. Shame on his research mentor.
|
I tried but gave up. The assumption I live 5-10 miles from work could have been turned into a question asking the distance, or at least stated up front so I wouldn't have had to bother with the first page of trivia. And then the next....

Nonetheless, the survey can provide the student with some data, to demonstrate use of basic analysis and graphing techniques, and the ability to write a research report. I'm sure there will be a p-value. |

Tough crowd. I completed it to help out a student in his final year.

It's a "senior capstone," basically a glorified term paper. I doubt it's expected to be publishable research. Regardless of the survey design, the fact that it's an online survey with self-selected participants renders it useless.

I didn't like the rating section, it ask me to rate variables and then explain. For the explaining I simply said "no".
Also, I took it multiple times with different responses to "muddy the waters" :P |

I guess I am lucky because I am financially rewarded for riding my bike to work by my company. Although the wellness term is vague, my company sees this as encouraging wellness in employees.
