The Just Right Commute Club: Week whenever

For those of you that don't have a very long commute, very short commute, very early etc. This is the club for you. I felt left out because I didn't qualify for any of the other clubs. I ride 17mi each way, not too long not too short, and I leave the house around 6:30AM, not too early. I get to work around a half-hour before I start so I can take a bird bath, change, eat breakfast and check the forums before I start at 8:00AM. So if you ride 8mi to 20mi one way and if you leave home between 5:30 and 7:30 congrats you can join. No fees are required and T-shirts are not yet available.
Cheers

I'd like to start the "I just commute and don't worry about it nor do I need to belong to a club" club.

Just ride. How many events on a commute need to be discussed each week? I've yet to open those threads.

Cerberusql, I like it -- sometimes we do seem too wrapped up in our own subworlds of biking. Soda -- you're probably right -- not that much happens that really needs to be discussed each week. On the other hand many of us who post lack an appreciative audience for our minor accomplishments, so a forum of like minded souls is the best we can come up with. I think Goldilocks and the Three Commuter Clubs is the perfect name. Whatever your stand on these commuter threads have a good ride and a great weekend.

Yeah maybe nobody needs to post about the minutea of their commutes, but it's kind of a way to pay attention to gratitude when you have a reason to focus on how good it is to commute by bicycle.

The commute and tour log stuff is my favorite part of these forums. Id take one 'boring'
commute post over the whole days "what bike is better/faster/lighter?" stuff.

I do about 15 miles each way, but I think I'm the only afternoon/late night commuter I've come across so far. I work 6pm-3am, so I leave home about 4pm and leave work about 3:30am. I get home between 4:30 and 6am depending on whether I stop at Waffle House for breakfast and whether I take a detour or whatever.

Heh, awesome title.

I'd like to think that we're all part of the "We commute by bike, therefore we're better" club.

I find the primary intangible reward of cycling is the sense of moral superiority I feel.

Man I feel left out. I am starting my commute now at 10 pm and getting to work at 10:30 for a 11PM to 7AM shift and I only bike 4 miles each way. No clubs for me!

But hey I get paid to ride a bike for those other 8 hours! Which club do I go for with that statistic??

I'm 330lbs, ride a single speed road bike, am at work by 7:30am and home by 5pm, and its 11mi round trip. I use panniers, not a backpack, and yes I wear a helmet but no I don't use 'bike' shorts, and I do it all on bmx platform pedals, and carry tons of tools and spares.

What club am I in?

I guess I'm out of the club. I leave home between 8:30 and 9:00.

I want to start the "Extremely overweight bike commuter club" (I mean the bike is overweight).

I stopped by the LBS on the way home from work one day to get them to look at my brakes... their clamp stand thingy almost wouldn't hold my bike, and the guy had trouble lifting it up to clamp it .

What, all I had on it was my pump, lights, patch kit, spare tubes, tools, lock, rack (oh yeah it's stainless steel, homemade, heh), panniers with my lunch box, notebook, clothes, and other misc....

The guy said if I ever buy a road bike [and presumably don't put all my crap on it] I'll be flying.

Eggplant, I know the feeling although I think I might carry less than you do. There are some days that between tools, tubes, change of clothes and paperwork and stuff from the office the panier is bulging ... then there are the three locks. I do notice when I go out riding with my son on the weekend how much lighter and faster the bike seems without the gear. So one more rationalization to make our days easier -- our commuting loads are just a lame device to improve our strength training.
