How to mount racks on Specialized Sirrus?
 

Picked up a new bike for tooling around town and want to get a rack for it. . .specialized sirrus. Attached is a photo of the rear wheel connection and there are no typical mount points that I am used two. there are two wholes - 1 threaded and one non threaded (see picture).

What do I need to attach a rack using these holes?

also what does the frame look like higher up at the seat stays? any mount points there? (see inset photo below)

Check this out. It shows there are threaded mounts you can put in there. You may have to ask a dealer for them.

Your bike is not designed for a rear rack, so anything you add will be a bit of a kludge. A touring or commuting oriented frame would have rack/fender mounts on the rear dropouts and near the seatstay bridge (your frame does not have these mounts. The holes you see are for disc brakes.)

The easiest solution is a seatpost-mounted rack. It won't hold as much weight, but should be fine for commuting.

Your picture looks a lot like my bike. I have a Sirrus Carbon Sport and a rack does fit. You don't use those two holes. Look on the outer side of the seat stays 90 degrees from those wholes. This is where the bottom connection is made. Then look at the seat collar. There may be plugs where the screws go, but the seat collar is made so that you screw the front connection into the seat post clamp. They go right where the screw is inset to tighten the seat post.

So despite the caliper in the front of the drop out, the holes are for the disc brakes?

Daaaang...you know, I even called Specialized directly and they couldn't figure it out. Bottom mount points weren't to hard, but had to replace the same post with another one ($10) that had a second set of rack mount points on the back -

Yeah, the guy at my LBS ordered me a collar like that too, the night I bought the bike, but then before I picked the bike up I read up on the bike and the specs said it had mounts so I went back and told the guy what I read. He then looked and realized how it worked\

probably too big. resize it smaller. on a windows machine I usually use "paint" quick and easy resizing. keep the height & width locked & reduce the % by 50 - 30% so the pic is a nice big enough to see but not as big as the screen. the BF website will not display it the same size, but it should be small enough to upload to "you attachments". if you'd like us to see a bigger version of the picture upload it to imgur, then post the direct link using the photo icon button
