Nice job. Many more miles coming on that tire.

Not gonna read this whole thread, so this might already have been mentioned. If the puncture is small, I just apply a self adhesive tube patch to the tire. Last year I had a small puncture that caused me three flats because the tiny tab from the punctured tire would eventually rub through the tube. A tube patch applied to the tire and I have over a thousand miles on it.

I'm a newbie in getting puncture and doing patching. You may not have seen my post last month when I had my first puncture and did the first ever patching. It was a tiny L-shaped glass about 2x3mm (lengths of the two strokes of the "L", resp.). The hole was like a pinhole, hardly visible (see picture I posted in that thread). The glass piece was embedded in the tire which I almost missed; I pulled it out with a plier (before finding the glass piece I was suspecting someone sabotaged my tire). That weekend I did quite some search and found some great posts online (including getting the replies on this forum). It's now 1.5 months later and my tire is still great. By the way I have since bought the stuffs recommended by rhm in that thread. I'm eager for more punctures so as to practice patching (I got a bit addicted after reading the many detailed tips online--as long as the flat doesn't happen on the road it's fun :D).

Here are some webpages I found then, about the art of patching, etc. :):

How to patch an inner tube the right way.

bike tubes: to patch or not to patch (reply #20 by poster m8547)

(I wonder if any of those authors are on these forums?)

Heh heh! If we could only choose when to have puncture...

I've had many punctures over the years, probably a good 30% of them were in mid-ride. No biggie; just swap tubes, check for and remove offending culprit, and you're on your way. I've been fortunate that most of these were during the warm months.

I've had good results with using tubeless rim tape on the inside of the tire where the damage is.

See: http://www.jensonusa.com/!5w6M06pSzM...XGQaAo6l8P8HAQ

On smaller cuts that need a patch to act as a puncture barrier to contain the inner tube, a small area of tubeless rim tape is perfect. it's strong enough to reinforce the damaged area while being thin, lite, flexible and self adhesive.

If the damaged area bulges after patching and inflating the tires, dispose of the tire. It's damaged beyond repair.

aka gorilla tape.

you probably want to close that hole off from the inside, just to ensure no grit gets in near the tube.

Gosh, I got a radial tire wire in my tire once, and it took me about 5 punctures to find it. I would air the thing up, let it sit for a week, ride it a mile, and it would be fine. Ride it to work and it would get flat.

I could not find the wire in the tire, but eventually I took a flat tube, found the hole in the tube, lined it up with the tire and found a tiny little wire in the tire.

That's how I found the hole. I learned the hard way as well on a ride one time when I had two flats in succession. Limped home and found the protruding wire.
