any color is a filter, so silver is brighter, but rear reflectors need be red, in vehicle codes.
Will the PD cite you? May not be a priority. ;) |

just got some red tape at Walmart for my hitch mounted cargo carrier. haven't really tested it much, but it seemed to reflect the flash from my camera. it stuck on pretty well & easily. the cargo carrier is stored in the basement, so it was cold & dusty. I cleaned it & then warmed the areas for the tape w a hairdryer. it's pretty thin & I'm sure it would wrap around bike frame tubes

Finally finished covering my entire bike in reflective vinyl tape. Well, more like I got vinyl sheets instead of tape. Liked it so much and had spare vinyl that I wrapped up my gf's bike too + helmet. For those curious I used 3M 780mC-10R (reflective white), 680CR (reflective blue), 1080 (florescent pink) vinyl plotter sheets. You can buy them from sign/graphic/car-wrap-shops. |

Stretchable Reflective Tape versus Paint
Reflective paint is easy to apply and is relatively bright. My issue with it is that it looks like I painted my bike with a fine sand. I like using a flexible or stretchable reflective tape. Tapes are brighter and can be removed. Flexible ones will not lift at the edges like the stiffer tape such as 3m diamond grade. I have tried two types of stretchable reflective tape, high intensity and engineer grade. Engineer grade flexible comes in many colors and is brighter than reflective paint. The white is rated at about 75 candelas. High intensity flexible only comes in 3 colors. White, orange and yellow. However, it is 3 times brighter than engineer so you can be seen much further away. I bought mine at a site called tapedealer. I believe identi tape also carries it.
