Peak Commuting Time...
 

...Pikes Peak, that is. It's hard to have a bad morning when this is the backdrop to your commute. Twenty-five years of bicycle commuting in Colorado Springs and it never gets old. This was from Yesterday's ride in to work.

yeah, jealous for sure. looks ideal. what distance do you ride? do you have a shower? locker? shelter for the bike? I'm ready to be really, really jealous :D

I am so envious!!! I've always wanted to live in Colorado, just never could make it work. My daughter lives in Littleton now, and I'm coming up to hang out with her for a week at the end of the month. Even though I know I'll be sucking wind, I'm bringing the bike so we can do some riding. Can't wait!

I ride 9 miles each way. I have three major routes with variations of each. This photo is at Memorial Park. A quarter mile to the right is the Olympic Training Center. Behind me to the left about 300 yards is the velodrome. While I have no shower, there is one available 5 minutes away on foot. I have never used it. I park my bike indoors. First in the warehouse, but for the last few years I've been able to use an empty office where I keep toiletries and hang my bike clothes during the day.

The really cool thing is that the city has really built up north towards Denver, and south towards Fort Carson, leaving the middle quiet and low traffic. Even by Colorado College, downtown. By comparison Boulder, with all its bike traffic looks like Beijing in the 80s. And Denver is still very car-centric, and the mountains are much further away. I have been blessed with a tremendously nice commute which is great, because I still have the same life challenges as everyone else, but I have my two 45-minutes of quiet beauty most days.

Just spent four days out there.. you leave in a great area. I'd love to commute on a daily basis in that setting!

We visited Colorado last July. It's spectacular. Pictures and words don't do it justice. Some of the vistas had me screaming and crying.

[MENTION=151366]BobbyG[/MENTION], not all of NYC is flat. Right near where I work in the Bronx, the street is so steep in one section, there is no road surface. Instead, there is a set of stairs six flights tall.

I stand corrected. I've only really been to Manhattan.

The northern half or third starts getting hilly. Most tourist spots in Manhattan are in the flat areas, leading visitors to conclude that it's flat. Of course we don't have enormous hills as other places do, but our short lumpy hills sometimes surprise people at how hard they can be.

Yeah, the stairs near my workplace are here on W 238 St at Irwin Ave. You can't see them well because of the trees. The Bronx has some steep hills.

Weirdness is in the eye of the beholder. I looked at a bunch of these and asked what's so weird or funny. I guess that means I live in NYC.

Left 36 years ago to go to college. Intended on returning, but life got in the way. Browsing Google Earth, it's amazing how much has changed. Buddies and I used to cruise Austin Parkway before it opened - great to have it all to ourselves. I wouldn't have bike commuted back then - we lived on the Northside up in the foothills.

My in-laws moved here in 1963 and they tell me all the stories about how Fillmore was a dirt road and so on and so forth. For me personally my first summer here 25 years ago I rode with the bike club of Powers Boulevard and it was one lane each Direction in a couple of sections. Now it's three lanes each Direction and not bike-friendly at all. My father-in-law was stationed at Ent Force Base which closed and became the Olympic Training Center where both my wife and my daughter have worked.

In 80, Academy Blvd from I-25 to Woodman was pretty much wheat fields and a few one-story strip malls - no Walmart, Chapel Hills Mall, Chapel Hills east, etc. Ditto the area across from the Academy - a few condos on Northgate Blvd, but no Northgate subdivision or Office parks. Enjoy!

I would not have guessed. Hopefully you don't have to schlep your bike up those stairs.
