Giant OCR3 Rain Gear
Hey everyone!
Its that time of year where all the tropical storms and summer showers are rolling through and making commuting to work a dreary soaking wet ride. I would love to get some ideas and reviews for good rain gear for myself and for my bike (GIANT OCR3). I have a backpack cover that does incredibly well at keeping that high and dry but the rest of me get soaked to the bone and my legs and bike covered in dirt and mud. Any and all advice would be amazing. Sorry if this has already been posted and I have overlooked it. THANK YOU! |
Is there anyone out there that has put fenders on their Giant OCR? I really don't want to make the mistake of purchasing the wrong type and finding out when its to late. Any and all advice would be fantastic!!
Thanks! |
I tried putting some clip on fenders on my ocr3 a while back, but I never got them to work right. They had a host of rubber bands and clamps, etc. I got a fender that clamps on the seat tube and covers the rear tire. Helps keep my rear dry, but that's about it. There are mounts, but I never went as far as buying some.

I've heard good things about these fenders. They are designed for bikes like yours. Check them out.

MK2's worked great on my bike, and IMO look much better than the new MK3's. Functionally they work fabulously in lighter rain, but you're still going to get wet feet if the rain is heavy, or if you're riding through standing water.
A while back there was a thread on rain capes and ponchos, like this one from Ikea: KNALLA Rain poncho - black, - IKEA Them, and a pair of rain pants with boots/shoe covers might be enough to keep you dry, but man, I'd hate to be riding in all that gear. I'd rather get wet. |
I've tried the SKS raceblade pro's on a 2016 Felt Z85 with no eyelets of any variety. they broke on their first trip out. it was dark and i couldn't see and i hit a stick on the way home and as designed they broke so as to not damage my tire/wheel. based on the 3 miles i rode in the wet before i used them, they offered me the rider great coverage from mud and muck and such however, the bike itself was going to get super gritty and dirty in places i didn't think was awesome like the brake caliper, crankset/bottom bracket from the front tire.
I've used the Crud road racer MK3 with pretty good results on the same bike. it was a pain to set up initially and given that they were completely made of plastic, they were a little bit bent out of the box and the front fender never really centered over the front tire however, they were great and offered significantly more protection from the elements for both myself and the bike as they offered way more coverage than the raceblades. the raceblades were super easy to take off and put back on offering less coverage and the MK3's required at least a masters in engineering to set up initially but offered more coverage. neither was aesthetically disturbing to the bicycle as my bike was matte black and both fenders complimented well if that means anything to you. |
