Cheng Shin Tire: any advice?
Guys,
I'm looking forward to change my downhill tires for some city slicks. I saw the CST slicks at my local bike shop but I can't seen to find any helpful reviews of that brand.
Cheers,
Ricardo-.
PS: The tire seems of good quality and the price is VERY cheap.

Isn't Cheng Shin called Maxxis now? Put 10 years of street riding on a pair of their MTB knobbies and still got plenty of tread left.

Maxxis is Maxxis, but lots of people do rebadge CS tires.
I used a pair of their tires on my old Trek 1100, while they weren't great, they were good tires, especially for $7 each. The tread is hard-wearing, but the puncture resistance leaves a bit to be desired...I found the side treads were rather thin, and were easy for glass, etc to get through when cornering.

Like catatonic said above, I bought a pair of CS at the Seattle swap meet some years ago & found they had a good ride, very cheap (2 for $5) & long wearing but I also had many flats from glass. Gave up on them long before they wore out & they had lots of cuts & holes in the tread. If you ride clean roads, they would be great tires.

I had a brand new CS 26" X 1.9" slick explode on me after the first ride. I put about 12 miles on it, pulled into the garage, and after about 20 minutes of the bike sitting quietly she went POW! Post mortem inspection showed that the bead parted company with the sidewall. Strange failure, it souldn't have been road damage as the rupture was inside the rim, and anyhow it was 12 very easy miles along a new-ish cycle path i.e. no debris, broken glass etc. and the tyre was just under its max PSI as per the sidewall.
The exchange tyre from the LBS is till going strong, showing little sign of wear after about 300 miles

For lower priced better quality tires maybe look @ Serfas.
I got a Kevlar Vermin @ 25$, compared to 45$ for IRC Kevlar xc's.
The Serfas is holding up really well. Pic below.
