It can be a function of how willing you are to live with a few flats. I'm an old hand at fixing flats. I can do one on the road in 15 minutes or less. If my tire has puncture protection, that's a bonus, but it's not a goal for me. I got a flat on Thursday for the first time in a long time, and I don't ride any puncture-resistant tires. It was fine by me. I usually ride Pasela or similar tires. One bike of mine has the Voyager Hypers which has protection but not rated the best. It's a long-wearing and very supple-riding tire.
