Quick-release frame bag

I was foolish enough to leave an expensive saddlebag on my bike while at work. Unsurprisingly, it grew a mind of its own.

So, back in the market for a bikebag. My dillema is finding a bag with a quick release that suits my needs. Otherwise I'll have to choose between the tedious task of attaching and unattaching my bag everyday, or exposing my bag to inevitable theft.

So, does anyone know of any bags that meet the following requirements:

Quick release
6+ liters of storage
Rain resistant
Not a pannier

My previous bag was a Revelate Designs Pika

Can you do a rack and trunk bag? Same thing happened to me - crooks stole one bike from the parking area, but mine was triple locked - so they just stole my seat bag. I also decided to go quick disconnect and decided I liked the extra room of a trunk bag. This is an Ibera.

I'd prefer not to use a rack. It's impractical as I don't carry many belongings.

Does anyone have experience with a knock-off bag? Seems hard to beat considering they're rouhly one-seventh the price of a recognized brandname bag...

I've been using one of these for several years. Pretty easy to remove / attach, and no rack. Geez, I guess I need 10 posts to put a url up.
Go to Jandd's website and look for the wedge III.

That's bikepacking gear, way beyond what's practical for commuting.

I use a 6L Agu handlebar bag with KlickFix mount on my hybrid. Works great. Hasn't really slowed me down, although my conditioning has improved since I began using it last year. Seems tough too -- I've used it on some gravel rides and the only modification I needed was a small bungee cord to keep the bag from rotating around the mount and flipping upward. If I needed to carry more or wanted to get it off the bars I'd get a KlickFix rear rack bag.

I hate backpacks because they're hot, sweaty and hurt my shoulders. But if I needed to haul that much stuff daily and didn't want a rack mount bag, or the bike wasn't compatible with racks, I'd have to consider a backpack. Some of my cycling friends manage with backpacks (integrated with water bags) in temps over 100F even on longish rides up to 50 miles.

Ortlieb Ultimate 6 would fit those criteria.

Banjo Brothers has a couple different choices. Quick Release Handlebar Bag | Banjo Brothers depending on how much you needed to carry. I have the version without the "quick release" system that has the tie down clips. It comes off/on in seconds, but there is undoubtedly a point at which the velcro will quit working I suppose. They also have a couple different sizes of waterproof saddle trunks that will work if you have sufficient clearance between saddle and tire.

As a point of reference, the medium handlebar bag, and the link I've provided above are the same size (they offer a larger quick release bag that looks like a rando bag) I can fit: a U lock, 6' cable lock, couple sets of keys, 2 smart phones, wallet, and a little room to spare inside the main compartment. I can stuff hat and gloves in with that stuff in the winter, but nothing more. I've only been using it this season, so far, so good, however I will say the opening is snug for cramming stuff in.

I have the same rack and an Ibera rack bag as well. Mine is the model with expendable panniers. I need them during Springs/Fall commuting where my commute clothes are very different at 7am and 4pm. So between my multicontainers lunch box, dress pants and dress shirt, morning commute clothes (pants, jacket, shirt, balaclava, shoe covers and gloves) and afternoon commute clothes (shorts/shirt with thermal sleeves/legs, head band and slimmer gloves), I need all the room this bag gives me

Btw, here's a picture of that 'lunchbox'. It's very handy and fits well into the Ibera bag. Enough containers to assemble a healthy salad for lunch

Nice. I thought this would be overkill for me as well, since all I really wanted was a carrier for my flat tire stuff and a small just-in-case lock. But it turns out to be the right size for my helmet and gloves so it's convenient to disconnect it and store it all together in my locker.
