In winter you are going to ride in long pants and the most convenient location for a bottle is on the down tube. With this you should choose a cage that will not catch the cuff of the pants, when empty. Most cages fail the requirement. Profile Design Kage works well as an example.

P.S. The mentioned Rib cages look good with that respect. In Arundel I am not sure about the knob that could catch the cuff.

I have the Arundel mounted on the downtube. But I wear reflective leg bands, so catching the cuff of my pants is not a problem. If I didn't put on the leg bands, the cuff of my pants would end up in the chain for sure.

Many people put the band just around the right leg and there is still the left cuff. Myself I cover the drivetrain in one way or another on every bike, so I neither need to bother with stained pants nor bands. In any case, it would be interesting to know whether the Arundel knob creates a problem for the cuffs. Overall this cage makes sense.

I could leave the left leg off and try it. From a safety standpoint, it makes sense to have a reflective band on the left leg since that is the side facing traffic (in the US). The cage works for me because my coffee cup won't fit in a regular cage. For weekend rides with a regular water bottle, a standard cage is more convenient. But I can make the Arundel work. I have been working about 500 miles from home this year and I only have my commuter (Surly LHT) and my Brompton with me.

Sure, thanks, it would be interesting, but be careful as the pants can get ripped for real. On the coat I use for winter I have reflective bands permanently around hand cuffs, with turning being a rationale, and then also have various reflective elements around the bike pointing in different directions.

I presume Arundel might not grab the content well enough. The Profile Design Kage can also accommodate contents that vary at least a bit in diameter. It comes with an O-ring to make it grab the content, which I replaced with an SS spring. Before I used adjustable cages from Topeak, but eventually cracked all of them with grabbed cuffs.

Thanks for mentioning that. I will keep that in mind and I'm still deciding what cage to buy.
