The roads are ok but the paths are not lit.

I initially mounted the helmet light to be seen. And while I don't care about the gear indicators (there are non on my old downtube shifter roadbike), I like being able to see my bike computer (speed/ridetime/trip distance/temp).

My issue today... the MUP has disappeared under the fallen leaves. My commute is dark on both ends now.

I would much rather my morning commute be before sunrise.
Not only can I be seen (lit up and reflective) but I can see motorists who have their headlights on.
Couple that with fewer encounters and the pre-dawn ride is preferable.

My train leaves right about the hour every morning starting at 4 AM in the morning, I leave my house about 4:30 - 4:40 AM everyday for my 15 minutes ride to the station, I hardly see any cars at that early time of the morning, but if I see few cars passing me somedays it worries me that I might being late, in the evening though, different story, I take a longer 40 minutes hilly ride home though mostly bike paths,

I too have been enjoying my dark, pre-dawn commute. That'll change (for a few weeks) after this weekend though with the daylight savings time change.



Agreed. Another benefit I've noticed is I can see oncoming car headlights before they come around a blind curve. :thumb:

Same here. My morning commutes will be now post-dawn starting Monday but my afternoon commute will now be post-dusk.

I used to work a nightshift and would often keep to the same sleeping pattern rather than force myself back into a normal sleeping pattern. Occasionally I would go for a night cycle, just cycling down the country lanes with my lights. Slightly un-nerving but also a wonderful quiet atmosphere. Something like 2am in the morning. Got chased by something once not sure what it was, probably a badger, I didn't look back just cycled faster when I could hear it coming.

It was around this area just cruising along these minor roads. Taking random turns until decided to cycle home. Did get a bit lost occasionally.

I miss my pre-dawn commutes, it was nice riding in the darkness (streetlights and bike light). Now that the clocks have changed, currently, my whole commute is in some degree of daylight. Don't even suggest commuting a hour earlier!!! :lol:

Afternoon commutes home are in darker conditions than prior to the clock change and may result in completely dark commutes home later this fall/winter but I like those less than dark morning commutes.
