New Multi-Use Paths! Yeah Bay-Bah!

In January I posted a thread in A&S (link here) about the multi-use paths they're constructing here in my home town. Well, I'm delighted to discover they're putting one on my main commuting route! The street in question has zero shoulder, and is busy all the time and with the "layout of the land" so to speak is the only reasonable route. The city announced the path recently, and posted the following image to their website. Actual construction started about two weeks ago. It will sure be nice to be able to go up and down a MUP on that part of the commute! ELP is indeed moving into the 21st century. Finally.

I used to think I had no use for these routes, as I have good nerves for riding in traffic. Now I love them.

Don't get too excited about the artist's conception. Where's the people with a cell phone in one ear, and a dog hanging off the 30' retractable lead in the other hand?

Pretty progressive for El Paso. Nice!

edit: that's actually progressive for just about anywhere actually.

Likely not there. There is very little pedestrian traffic along that route, and definitely no dog walkers etc. The demographics of this path are extremely inconvenient for that type of use, as opposed to the path I highlighted in the post in A&S (linked to in the OP). It's difficult to explain why, but it's just not a "pedestrian dog walker" area. This path is primarily for the use and safety of bicyclists, although pedestrian use is legal. It's placement is largely the result of requests to the city from the El Paso Bicycle Club.

I'm the same way - fearless in traffic, certainly, but appreciative when safer routes are available.

How will the trees and flowers fare in the desert climate?

Doesn't seem to wide but it beats the road.

Not bad. Along the new but established MUPs they seem to be doing fine. At least so far . . .

Here's hoping it works out for you!

I'd prefer half the landscaping and twice the width, but something to celebrate nonetheless!

The artist's rendition is not accurate lol. Here's the real deal, and the actual size of the upcoming path. This is a path they completed about a year ago that is part of the network -

I like the vegetation, especially since (on the new path) there are no driveways or cross-streets where views can be blocked.
