Assess yourself for 2017!
Today will be the last day of work this year for many people and some of us have already cashed out. Check your entries in the mileage thread and think back on your year. How did you do? Did you set goals (for mileage or budget or fitness), did you meet them? Did you learn, were you happy? What does 2018 look like?

This year has been a good one for me. I began taking the 3yo to day care, occasionally on the back of my commuter bike as weather and time permitted. We made an arrangement with the nanny to work a half hour later so I could ride home any day of the week. Because of that, I beat 1000 miles this year in spite of a month and a half out of work for family leave and my wife's job. I got a new full-suspension mountain bike of just-good-enough quality, which I've been taking on non-daycare days. I'm never going to rack up 5000 miles like some of you, my limit if I rode all the time would still probably be more like 2500, and that's never going to happen due to my bum ticker keeping me slow, and to other tasks that sometimes require the truck.

I have a few more days as I will be working right till 12/29. The year started slow for me as back problems kept me from riding early this year. After too much pain I finally decided to move from upright bikes to recumbents. This has been a "life saver" for my back. Did most my miles in the second half of this year.
2018 will have its own challenges. My company will be moving offices in summer 2018 and my commute length will get cut almost in half. So have to find some extra miles to keep on racking up the miles.

This year has been great...until this week when I was hit with a flu bug. Knocked me off track. I haven't ridden a single ride this week. That notwithstanding, though, I only drove the car six times this calendar year, three of which occurred this week alone.
As for mileage, I haven't calculated that yet. No, I don't use Strava. Yes, I am old school. I figure it's probably around 9,000 km.

I should hit 2100 miles (commuting + recreation) for the year after next week. I was aiming for 3000+, but wasn't expecting to be off ~4 months due to an injury.

My daily average was up, thanks to my new DIY rain cape. It was a wet spring and summer the cape made riding in the rain more enjoyable. I also modified portions of my regular routes, and tried more variety and experimentation route-wise. I feel good about my year.

Best year so far. Will end up with 4000 miles in total (commuting + for fun/training), + or - 100 miles. Still going strong in Chicago, going into Christmas. I think this will be the first year I make it completely year round without slowing.
New Years resolutions for 2018: 5000 miles on the bike, and 20 books read (not necessarily while on the bike...).

About 2600km this year, I'm relatively happy with that even though I slowed down a lot in Fall due to odd and excessive working hours. My commute alone is too short to collect a lot of kilometers. Expecting more kilometers next year and more leisure cycling activity.

I was very nearly 100% for the year. My commute is 8 miles round trip. One day when I drove to work, I actually got lost because they had re-routed the road in front of my workplace and I was unaware of it.

Someone mentioned injury... This spring, I had a near-wreck on my belt-drive 3-speed where I went through an offroad section, bounced off the lead pedal which slammed on the brake unexpectedly. The handlebars came around and whacked my left arm above my wrist. It's been bothering me ever since, must have been a hairline fracture in my ulna. That bike has since been sold, it just didn't suit me in a lot of ways.
This tailbone injury is going to stay with me a while too.

I give myself a C+ this year.
Enough miles to stay in relatively good shape, and I bike-commuted more than 100 days. But I've been in far better shape before, and I've lost some descending mojo.
Next year I need to start sooner, and pile up the hilly miles so that I can really tear it up.

I did great this year. Last year, I clocked 2,000 miles, so I set a goal of 2,500 miles for the year. I'm at almost 3,100 miles now. Most of the miles were commuting. I aimed to ride more than two days a week, and I did exceed that in the later months of the year.
I also worked on speed and strength and improved those. Lifting weights has helped a lot. I do it for just five or ten minutes in the morning.
I did a few challenge rides on weekends, too. I volunteered as a marshall on the NYC Century ride. I volunteered to do the 50-mile route, but I made a wrong turn and ended up on the 75-mile route.
I signed up for the Hillier Than Thou ride in New Jersey, which has a choice between 100 insanely kilometers or 100 insanely hilly miles. I chose the shorter route. One of my preparation rides was a solo century in the Catskill mountains, which was fun and gorgeous and, of course, hilly. I did quite well on the Hillier Than Thou, thanks to preparation of my body and mind. I was one of the older riders, and I had the heaviest bike of all the participants.
My commute length was just over 13 miles each way, and I'm searching for my next job currently. Chances are, I won't be working as far from home as I was. This presents a challenge for keeping the mileage up.

I just tabulated my mileage for the year. I end with 5996 miles (9644 km). That's about the same as last year.
I tried to keep up with the running as best as I could. I got about 500 miles on that.

5266 miles commuting this year. Another ~ 1100 joyriding. A bit less than last year but not too far off. Considering my bout with pneumonia back in January and tending to my wife and her broken leg these last several weeks I would have been right around my usual mileage numbers. Not really contemplating any radical changes for '18. More of the same although I will probably make some changes with the fleet. Been thinking about adding a tadpole trike but not sure how/where it will fit in the office (or garage for that matter). We'll see.

It pretty much says it below. In a nutshell I was happy with reaching my goal very closely to 2016! The cold winter start had me start riding the winter bike with studded tires sooner than I would have liked and it doesn't look like that is going to change for at least another week.

It was a good year of bike commuting. I was shooting for 6,000 commuting miles total for 2017. It was getting close at the end and I thought I had about one extra day. After some reconciling I realized I needed 1/3 of a mile more, but luckily that was Friday before I rode 12 miles home. So I ended with 6,011.88 commuting miles over 456 rides. I don't count days because some days my wife will pick me up from work due to weather or just because it's easier. Recreation miles was only 224 for the year.
I also run quite a bit which is why I don't ride much outside of commuting. I ran 2,236 miles which includes 12 weeks of marathon training last winter/spring, base miles through the summer & fall and starting another marathon plan about 2 months ago.
I'm not really setting a goal for 2018, but if I ride about the same, then I should get close to 6,000 again. My one way commute can be as short as 11 miles or up to about 16 if I take a couple of detours. Average is around 13.

I commuted every single possible day ... except one where we (faculty) had a guest in town and I was very hung over (took an ÜBER instead).
So 103/104. Will keep the trend for next year.

2645mi for me this year, plus assorted miles without the bike computer (probably less than 100). I tracked my commuting at bikejournal.com in the CCCC, I logged 174 round-trip commutes. Only once maybe did I wimp out for rain, the rest of the missed days were due to required car-based-errands or work travel or holidays. My usual/minimal RT is 11mi, 174*11=1914, but with the occasional longer route, probably at least 2100 of those miles were commuting.
Our 2nd car did 3402mi this year, the first year since 2012 (I started bike commuting in 2013) that our 2nd car had more miles than me biking. It's because it used to be 'my' car, now it's the primary car of our new 3rd driver.

Around 6000 km in just commuting, with usually at least one 2-3 hour road or cross ride a week. Long rides were cut into by our 19 month old, but I'd rather bike trailer him to the park or botanical gardens than hang out with myself on a long ride
Great year for our family. Wife was hired full-time and gets excellent benefits as a state employee. She (likely) passed the final leg of her licensing exam a few weeks back too. That means salary bump AND she can work for herself in a few years. Son has gone from "must have an eye on him at all times, or he might kill himself/the dogs" to a lot of fun to be around and really on the very of being a small dude, not a baby. I also no longer have to drive him to our sitter, we have on that comes to us! Woohoo, I really don't like driving. I'm on the final steps of (finally) completing my degree. And work was up and down, but just the nature of what I do these days. It's mostly fun and I think I took a step closer to really being good at what I'm doing.
A slight cold right now, but otherwise happy, healthy, and doing well. I think 2018 will be a great year. Want to ride even more, lose a few "new baby, no time to ride" pounds, graduate in May and make my family very proud, and have a successful work year.
Best wishes to everyone!

...fart noise....
Had a fairly good early spring. That's it. 3 months of working in Canada doing rotations, where my time home was generally not spent working, or doing anything but stuff that needed to be done around the house...my best friend and reliable riding buddy moved...more time off work burning up some comp time...then 2 major hurricanes that kept me either traveling, working until midnight or later, working from home, brought me to Thanksgiving, and then a general fatigue and laziness got me through half of December before I peaced out for the rest of the year...all of that was not conducive to keeping a consistent riding schedule.

I like the idea of this thread and meant to post in last years but I did not so I am going to make sure I post in this years.
I am pleased with this year. It was not like 2016 though. 6537 Miles for the year and I rode across the state. That was a great experience except for the Hurricane that beat us to the coast and caused the ride to be cancelled.
This year most of miles were commuting. 5469 miles for the year. I did not get a few more group rides in. I had hoped to do more than I did but I still felt strong on those rides I did.
I rode with my 8 yo son more and I hope to do more rides with him in 2018. Highlight in this area was that my son rode 17 miles on a single speed bike. I am so proud of him.
I had hoped to ride a Rail trail or two and camp along it but I did not get a chance to do that. I am going to in 2018 for sure.
