The cranky old fart in me thinks the intelligence of the average person who feels they need to yell as they pass can be judged by how much sense the person who hears the yell understands. Sounds like an idiot? Probably is...

Today was my first day back after a week off for vacation and it's cold and dark! First I discovered I'd left my nice pump in Michigan (where we were vacationing). Then my bike sounded like it was making popcorn. On my 3rd pullover I discovered almost all my rear spokes were loose. I have no idea how or when this happened since I rode while in Michigan and it was fine. Maybe change in temps?! Got to work late... I need another vacation

Long pants yesterday, long pants today! First time in long pants in many months. I'm going to miss short pants weather.

65 degrees and 100% humidity. I couldn't wear my glasses as they fogged up and wouldn't clear up when moving. Streets were still wet from the last 2 days of rain.

I had to rush home because my wife's water just broke :)

Yesterday morning was a bit damp. It was like riding in a cloud the whole way. Slightly wet on my front but dry on my back. Great ride home yesterday average 15.7mph and got a PR on a hill climb. :)

It seemed much darker this morning. 50% or more of rain this afternoon but currently sunny. We shall see. I might get one more day of riding in before driving the rest of the week because of Florence and her side affects.

Low clouds and humid is the theme of the week. That and the looming hurricane on its way. This morning they're saying it may turn west as it makes landfall, possibly going south of Charlotte through more of South Carolina. No matter what it does we are looking at lots of rain and wind this weekend.

A good 15 miles this morning.

We've had a lot of rain, and we may get some heavy rain this afternoon, too, but it wasn't raining this morning. I rode into work. The humidity is very high. My headwind was very strong, but it wasn't as gusty or shifty as it often is. I geared down and cruised at around 11 mph, which is slow for me. I arrived pretty sweaty, but I'm OK now.

I saw a cool cyclist behind me and got ready to take a picture. While I was waiting for her to pass, I took this shot of what my phone see when it's mounted on the handlebars.

Then she passed me. She was riding a super cool bakfiets tricycle, with her kid inside. When she turned the handlebars, the wheels leaned over towards the turn. I don't know the terms for that kind of steering.

I got up late so I made up the time by shaving while my lunch was on the stove, and just about to leave when my wife got up and went straight into telling me that my son and fiance were tense because of school pressure and she didn't know if he got his stuff printed because of an error light on the Brother laser printer :rolleyes:

So of course I had to stop and mess with that, the usual checklist of paper path, toner cartridge function, corona wire ... fortunately cleaning the corona wire did the trick, so I was only a little late getting out. Cool(ish) morning with cloud cover so I made up more time by keeping it slow, 13-16 mostly, to avoid needing a shower at work.

Not quite as cool this morning (58F) but still chilly. Still having spoke issues so I relented and dropped my bike at a downtown LBS a block from my office. I hate when I can't fix stuff myself but paying them is better than crashing. I hope you east coasters don't get the brunt of Hurricane Florence - looks nasty.

Wonderful, clear, cool day, a great day to ride a bike to work.

Until the rear tire blew out, and I walked the rest of the way. It seems much shorter when I'm rolling!

Biking home in the rain today I got passed by an electrified motorized pugsley! Glad he gave me a wide berth those 4" tires throw of a *lot* of water.

It was foggy and wet this morning but not raining. Humidity was 100%. The roads were wet. I was wet. My glasses were fogged up.

On the way home I waited too long and it was raining, and of course I got a flat, and then a second. I was able to ride the rest of the way home by pumping it up every mile or so. At least it was only 5 miles and not 20, in which case I'd have fixed it.

Today was my first commute of the school year. I'm a high school athletic director so I often need to have my truck to haul equipment around or drive out to a road game. The start of fall sports means a lot of equipment pickups. My commute takes me along Lake Michigan for a few miles. Beautiful sunrise. No fog. My new to me Trek 890 chews up the 7 mile (one way) commute and doesn't blink at the cracks, potholes, drawbridges and road debris. Certainly not as fast as the 520 with more sporty geometry in 1985, but more comfortable with the long chain stays and 26x1.75 tires. New Brooks saddle is finally broken in and definitely rides as advertised.

I have this weird thing going where I'm really enjoying my rides but I'm getting knee pain everywhere else during the day that I'm not sure is related. Could be position on the new bike, could be we bought a house with stairs a few months ago, could be changing babies on the floor and cleaning up after the incontinent cat.

This morning, just after leaving the house, on the village main street, I saw a few deer running through the yards to my right. It was dark (4:50 AM) but that area has good street lighting. I saw at least three deer-- a doe and two fawns. I have a strong sense that I saw a second doe as well. ANYway, here's the interesting thing. The second fawn, no bigger than a dog like a collie or so, was pure white.

In the Charlotte, NC, area we are definitely in the calm before the storm. Clear skies and light winds this morning. Florence is due to hit the coast at about 1 or 2am tonight. I think I'll still be able to bike to work tomorrow though because it shouldn't reach this area until Saturday. The wife and I hit Wal-mart again last night for some batteries and non-perishable food just in case we lose power. Shelves were definitely short on supply in some spots such as soup and peanut butter.

A decent ride in this morning.

60F, no wind, clear skies, almost perfect!

Much warmer today than yesterday. I may have to leave Saturday's ride start early -- I mean, take a long warmup! -- if this keeps up.
