yes agree that he's also a person, this is a very good point that he is a human being - ! Jesus i wouldn't want to be living in your house if this is how you feel about a coworker (who you don't live with).

all the garden slugs i know are awesome ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's because they practice meditation.

and oh there's this thing called not chewing off random forum people out while airing dirty laundry for all to see. it's called being civilized!

and...good luck with life!... i really hope the best for the outcome of it. not just for you but for everyone you come into contact with.

Why does it bother you so much if a nonrider questions your cycling creds because you didn't ride in a winter snowstorm with driving winds? And why do you think he'd be upset if someone he doesn't like insults him?

His whole point was to provoke and you took the bait hook, line, and sinker. You gave him exactly what he sought, so expect him to keep doing things like this. A witty comeback is highly unlikely to have any effect -- he probably figured you'd expend too much energy on it (which you already have) making it part of the sport.

Fair enough point. But since he saw none of me posting here (most of which is arguing with people who think they have some clairvoyance into this dude's mental state) and only saw me ignoring him as I continued to work, I doubt he got much satisfaction from it.

I think it could be taken as a good joke in good humor...

I'm always a bit slow with the witty responses...
  • You would have ridden, but you thought it would be unfair to other riders on Strava to pick off a bunch of 50 MPH segments.
  • Your "Jetsons" cycle was in the shop, otherwise you would have flown to work.
  • You decided not to drive when the requisite hurricane weatherman chose to use CGI on the news

I found the good natured ribbing from my coworkers about me riding in not so good weather ended when they found out I did ride in that day. The expected good natured ribbing about being a wimp turned into offers of a ride home, and later they took my riding in colder weather for granted. It's not easy for people who think of bicycling as mainly coasting a few blocks in warm weather to understand pedaling for more than 10 minutes in colder/windier weather, especially when it gets dark out. But with time they got used to it as it was the way I got to work a couple of times a week.

I had a few comments like that today, "you didn't ride your road bike in 30mph winds and snow?"

It's been pretty bad around here as well. Haven't rode to work since the 20th of December. Grant it, I've been off work for vacation/holiday.

I think 5 people have asked this week if I've rode my bike to work thinking they are funny. The minute I think the roads are almost safe enough to ride on, I will be giving them more fuel for the fire.

When the weather gets bad, the traffic congestion will be worse because there's likely a collision somewhere. I usually ride anyways. I'll get to work a little later but I still would pass traffic.

If the snow is so bad that I can't ride, I walk. My commute was only 4.5km or 55 minutes of hiking through the snow.

I just had some dental work done yesterday...

As I was leaving, the receptionist almost looked a bit worried sending me home 15 miles on my bike with a numb mouth and a chunk of gaze that I was supposed to put pressure on the mouth with.

The ride actually went pretty well. Perhaps it is better riding than sitting home thinking of how one's mouth ached.

So a guy in my office who's a comfortable 5'6" 275 pops his head in my office this morning and says "Oh no bike today? Thought you were dedicated." All in the most sarcastic judgmental voice imaginable.

Like, really? The last bike this guy got on probably collapsed. He's personally raising the health insurance rates in the office for everyone else. And he's giving me grief about not riding in this slop?

Anyone else work with morons who feel the need to give you comentary?
I actually enjoy getting out there in the worst conditions. It gives me a chance to try out all my winter gear. Honestly I probably spent more on the gear than on the bike.

If he can get into work car, then I can get into work by bike. He probably looks up to you because he knows he will never be able to do what you do.

I used to commute by bike year-round here in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin. I found reactions to my doing so very polarizing.

There were two distinct groups - those who supported me and gave me "way to go!" reactions, and those who thought I was crazy and didn't hesitate to let me know. Very rarely would I get the kind of sarcasm the OP did, but when it happened, I would smile and get back to whatever I was doing. Obviously the intent of the comment was to rile you. Don't act riled, and most likely it will stop.

Laugh it off next time and follow up with a sincere "Hey, when it warms up a bit, let's take a ride together." It will either shut him up for good or you'll make a new cycling buddy.

It's 0 degrees F where I live and weekly I have a customer that comes into the shop wearing shorts. I hope his car doesn't break down and he has to walk somewhere for help because if the temps don't get him the windchill will.

I'm reminded of a saying someone once paraphrased:

"It doesn't take all kinds (to make the world go 'round), there just are all kinds"

If you think that's bad you should have seen the looks I got when I rode home from the cardiologist when they wanted to give me a TEE the very next day

Once they get used to you, they don't think of it one way or the other because they know that's just how you get around.

So, the OP wimped out of riding in under 100 mph wind and then came here to whine some more?!
