Check out this dynamo light

i bought from this seller and just got the light, took almost a month but...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOXEYE-StVZ...gAAOSwW6BaN9ly

it is an excellent headlight. better than my axa pico30. the best part is i put in a 11.99 offer and it was accepted. so for 12.00 and no shipping i got a damn fine dynamo headlight!

Gotta love sweatshop labor. Also, when it's eventually time to dispose of it, make sure that Superman throws it directly into the sun.

I'm kidding... or am I?

I know, and that's why I'm half kidding. I mean, if you wanted to 'do the right thing' when buying an item like that, I'm pretty sure you would be riding in the dark.

That said, some of the dirt cheap stuff on Ebay and Amazon that comes straight from China is total garbage (or a ripoff of someone else's work).

i understand completely. i worked off and on for 33 years in manufacturing as a welder making tractors. it was really lousy work i did to raise my children and we were told all the time that someone in china or mexico or south america would do our jobs for a dollar an hour. there wasnt much i could do about that. if we as a society want to promote more responsible labor policies i am all for it. whenever i start talking about it someone calls me a socialist.

Lot's of respect for that. And anyone who would call you a socialist for that either hasn't been in your shoes, or refuses to put themselves there. That stuff should be a no brainer, but unfortunately there seem to be a lot of people out there with no brains.

I would take that as a compliment rather than as a negative as it was intended. Being a socialist or living under socialism forces one to examine what is really good for society. In some countries it works extremely well (Scandiland and northwestern Europe) and in others it doesn't (Mediterranean countries).

The light doesn't seem that cheap to be honest, it seems about regular price when one considers 20% VAT on the German prices.

If you grow up in the US, you are essential taught that socialism and communism are bad words.

What Mediterranean countries do you consider socialist?

As I've said for a long time around here, Americans are foolish. France, Italy, Spain and Portugal; I'd consider social-democratic countries, where the US is only Democratic. I'd consider Scandiland more most socialist and less democratic. So, it's a spectrum. It's addition these change over time.

i make 9.75/hr. i believe the 150 lux is out of my price range. i have a pico 30 and for half the money or less the brandless one is significantly better. plus i wouldnt be suprised if the axa is made in china.

if you had read the op you would know that the light i bought is probably significantly better than the axa pico30. since i posted that in the first post. i have 2 pico30's currently running and i find them reliable and pretty solid performers but the beams are not that even because they use a lense instead of a reflector. i went to the axa sight to see if in fact these are "non-chinese" lights. axa claims no particular geographic location for their manufacturing base. however they do have a "non human trafficing statement" so thats nice. i am guessing they get their lights made in the cheapest place they can find, like china or some other place that pays people next to nothing and then make us all feel better by posting a " non human trafficing statement". what is the difference between buying from someone who has their goods produced in china, or just buying them from china?

That AXA is made in France with unionised labour for that price.

well that is amazing and i will certainly buy axa in the future. i am serious about that. i have used the pico30 on several prjects for me and other people. where do you get your information? i could not find that on the axa website.

https://www.axasecurity.com/en-gb/

On ebay it lists the country of manufacture as France.

i have no reason to believe that is wrong. in fact that seller is where i bought the pico30's from.

i do much prefer to buy from people who treat workers decently. its one reason i saved my money to buy a bob jackson frameset.

its nice that you can make a blanket statement like that. all americans are not the same. some of us worked in union jobs for years. some of us deliver meals to the old and unfortunate. some of us volunteer to help the less fortunate get bikes to commute on. and many of us campaign and vote for socially progressive political candidates.

just so you know....

I know, I grew up in America and lived in six states.

I understand the diversity.

However, some overarching commentary can be made, such as that Americans are foolish when they attach a negative correlation to "socialism" and "communism."

That was my initial comment and I stand by it.

Nowhere did I state that all Americans are foolish.

i agree with the statement you just made. i have a harder time with...

"As I've said for a long time around here, Americans are foolish."

but since you have lived in 6 states and you did find the axa origin of manufacture i should be more generous with my reading of your post.

The beamshot in the ebay listing makes it look as if the light is mounted upside down.

Yeah, ignoring your laughable blanket statement about Americans (because that is what it reads like, intended or otherwise) that you have since backed down from...

France, Italy and Spain have more liberal/progressive social programs, but they are far from being Socialist countries. They really aren't that far off from the US, and with just a little bit of legislation the US could end up looking quite similar to them.

52telecaster, supporting union labor is great, as is buying from countries with decent labor laws, but unfortunately I suspect we are in the minority. Most people just don't seem to care. My neighborhood is in the midst of a huge construction boom (as are many neighborhoods in NYC), and many of the projects are using non-union labor. Sometimes there are union guys protesting outside the work site, but most people barely notice. Not trying to sound xenophobic, but many foreigners moving to the neighborhood either don't care about, or don't grasp the implications of unionized labor.

And once the projects are done and prospective buyers/renters are being shown the units, nobody is going to tell them it was build with non-union labor, and nobody is going to ask. Hopefully the architects are at least competent, because I see some off these non-union workers and I wouldn't trust them to lube my chain.
