Gotta love sweatshop labor. Also, when it's eventually time to dispose of it, make sure that Superman throws it directly into the sun.

of course the axa pico i use that i bought from a german company came from the exact same sweatshop so there is that...
That said, some of the dirt cheap stuff on Ebay and Amazon that comes straight from China is total garbage (or a ripoff of someone else's work). |

I know, and that's why I'm half kidding. I mean, if you wanted to 'do the right thing' when buying an item like that, I'm pretty sure you would be riding in the dark.

i understand completely. i worked off and on for 33 years in manufacturing as a welder making tractors. it was really lousy work i did to raise my children and we were told all the time that someone in china or mexico or south america would do our jobs for a dollar an hour. there wasnt much i could do about that. if we as a society want to promote more responsible labor policies i am all for it. whenever i start talking about it someone calls me a socialist.

The light doesn't seem that cheap to be honest, it seems about regular price when one considers 20% VAT on the German prices. https://www.bike24.de/1.php?content=...ge=7;orderby=2 |

I would take that as a compliment rather than as a negative as it was intended. Being a socialist or living under socialism forces one to examine what is really good for society. In some countries it works extremely well (Scandiland and northwestern Europe) and in others it doesn't (Mediterranean countries).

i make 9.75/hr. i believe the 150 lux is out of my price range. i have a pico 30 and for half the money or less the brandless one is significantly better. plus i wouldnt be suprised if the axa is made in china.

its nice that you can make a blanket statement like that. all americans are not the same. some of us worked in union jobs for years. some of us deliver meals to the old and unfortunate. some of us volunteer to help the less fortunate get bikes to commute on. and many of us campaign and vote for socially progressive political candidates.
just so you know.... I understand the diversity. However, some overarching commentary can be made, such as that Americans are foolish when they attach a negative correlation to "socialism" and "communism." That was my initial comment and I stand by it. Nowhere did I state that all Americans are foolish. |

France, Italy and Spain have more liberal/progressive social programs, but they are far from being Socialist countries. They really aren't that far off from the US, and with just a little bit of legislation the US could end up looking quite similar to them. 52telecaster, supporting union labor is great, as is buying from countries with decent labor laws, but unfortunately I suspect we are in the minority. Most people just don't seem to care. My neighborhood is in the midst of a huge construction boom (as are many neighborhoods in NYC), and many of the projects are using non-union labor. Sometimes there are union guys protesting outside the work site, but most people barely notice. Not trying to sound xenophobic, but many foreigners moving to the neighborhood either don't care about, or don't grasp the implications of unionized labor. And once the projects are done and prospective buyers/renters are being shown the units, nobody is going to tell them it was build with non-union labor, and nobody is going to ask. Hopefully the architects are at least competent, because I see some off these non-union workers and I wouldn't trust them to lube my chain. |
