When will you commute again?
2 Attachment(s)
Since last night we've got 8.8 inches of snow. I believe we will get at least 4 more. I know I won't be commuting till there is some road showing. I'm hoping for either the 26th of February or the 5th of March. That's based on the forecast at this point. Is anyone else estimating their return to commuting and when do you think it will happen?

We got 5-10 cm today, probably closer to 10, but I expect by Monday morning the roads should be clear enough to use.

still commuting most days but i wouldnt if i had 8 inches of snow.
|
I’m starting on Monday. Probably doing 2-3 commutes this week. It’s the dead of winter here, but 2 main criteria are falling into place next week:
There’s enough daylight now at the end of the day. The morning temps are above 32 Driving over the past couple months has been killling me. Looking forward to feeling a lot more like Superman and a lot less like Clark Kent. |
Hopefully next Monday. I haven't ridden in close to a week and I'm feeling soft and grumpy about it.
|
My practical limit is three inches of loose snow. More than that and it takes too long to ride to work. I suppose a fatbike might do the job, but I have 26x1.6 Suomi Nokian W106 studded snow and ice tires and while they work great, too much loose snow turns my 9-mile, 45 minute commute to 90 minutes or more.
|
I haven't been riding in. I started a new job right after New Year, and I kind of wanted to get a feel for the place before I started riding in. There isn't a rack or anyplace to store my bike, but my supervisor said I could bring it in and park it by the door. So I'm thinking Monday might be my first time this year.
I have been walking to work. It's only about 3 miles from my house. It's the first time I've walked to work since I got my drivers licence. |
I miss commuting via bike so when I get a new job thats closer to where I live lol
|
Monday morning. But then I'm back home from a trip to the 6" snowfall land (worried about falling and breaking something most of the week!)

Food delivery by bike is a huge sector of the market here in NYC. People are ordering deliveries all the time. The deliveries come by bicycle, usually pedaled by a recent immigrant. These guys are TOUGH! When we get snow, that doesn't stop them. In fact, that's when demand is highest. Sometimes they have to push their bikes, but as soon as they can roll, they do. Of course, distances are extremely short here. Each of those trips might average less than a mile.
|
I bike commute on a day by day basis depending on the weather at this time of year. I will be riding on Tuesday again this week if all things are favorable.
|
I was able to get in one day about 2 weeks ago. I should be able to get in one or two days this week.

This week sometime. No reason not to, except tired and lazy. Depends how late the olympics keep me up most nights!
|
Hoping to ride tomorrow, as I've been off the bike more than 2 weeks now mainly due to illness and partly due to weather conditions. This past weekend was just awful so I couldn't do any recreational rides, either. This week should get up to near 70 degrees by Thursday!

Thursday!
It's looking to be about 65. Might rain. Don't care. It's been 30 here since New Years and while some of you love to ride in the cold, it's not for me. After that I figure once we get to March it'll be alright. |
I'm hoping it's warm enough and the salt has been washed away by March.
|
In 4.5 hours when I ride home. (Sorry.)
|
I guess complaining about my ride this morning at 42* would be a little inappropriate.

We had an inch or two of rain over the weekend. It stopped last night (Sunday). The streets are clear. I rode to work today, and it's my first day on the job. Other than a stiff headwind and the need to carry my bike upstairs, it was fairly easy. It's now just 6-1/2 miles for me.

Did you ride today? I saw the ice in my driveway and chose discretion over valour. Should be good by tomorrow though.

I did ride. Road conditions were dicey, but my 45 mm Suomi tires handled it well. They, however, did not help prevent me from getting rear-ended by an intoxicated driver. :( Can't comment much other than that.

Wednesday and Thursday are suppose to be above freezing. If enough of it melts, I will try to ride to work on Saturday. Have Monday and Tuesday off. Will see again on Wednesday. Biggest concern will be black ice as the temperature in the morning will be below freezing.
|
When the roads are clear of snow and safe to ride. No point in pushing my luck on snow covered shoulders and icy sidewalks / bike paths.
|
been pretty clear lately ... no reason not to ride:
