Swapped Smoothies for Studs...

Took off the Suomi Nokian 26x1.65's and put on the WTB "Slick" 1.85's this morning. This was the third winter with studded snow tires, but I really only needed them 3 days due to a dry winter and other scheduling issues. The first two winters I did dozens of snow and ice commutes. I also exchanged the summer and winter tires on my wife's CAR today.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a66b076420.jpg

Pretty late in taking them off, no? I had mine off two weeks ago, and that's with that freaky April ice storm.

I've a set of the Suomi's as well, in 45 mm. I like them, especially on slushy/snowy rides, but unfortunately at 45mm it's a bit tight for my rear chainstay.:(

My studded tires are mounted on separate wheels. Swap wheels as needed.

I have 3 bikes, so no urgent need to rush.

That's smart. No one ever accused me of being smart.

My studded tires are on separate bikes, I swap bikes as needed. Flavor of the day or snow conditions as it were.

I haven't tasted my bikes in years. When I did they left a metallic after taste. I suppose the newer carbon bikes have fixed that.

My studded tires are, also on separate bikes,(an old MTB) & since ice on the street at sea level is rare, occasional & short duration.
I have been able to keep the same ones for 30 years..

fwiw my ice bike still has it's studded tires on. I'll get around to it when I also mount up the new tire on the road bike

Funny how the brain works sometimes. I read it as swapped smoothies for suds. Thought it was going to be a thread how changing your breakfast routine increased your performance.
guess my subconscious was hoping.......

I'm in Mn, I didn't stop riding studs until I'm was 100% absolutely certain there was no ice left anywhere whatsoever.

No way am I taking the risk after suffering through this hellish winter of taking the studs off to soon, hitting one of the last ice pitches, and be unable to bike during the summer because of a broken arm or something. Heck no. I keep riding studs till there's no chance of ice at all anywhere.

This time of year it's not a matter of guess work as to whether or not there's ice on the road. There may be cold morning after a night of rainfall that might turn into ice on the road, and when it doubt I always take the studs. It takes two minutes to swap out the wheels.

I think it's safe to take them off now. ;)

lmao, I didn't mean I still have them on. Just that I didn't feel that being overly in a hurry to stop using them was an appealling way to go for me.

I was thinking it was some sort of Jamba Juice - Chippendales collaboration.
