I would want something less likely to rust. But maybe that’s not too big a deal. I lived on my bike for the first three years of college. It was a GS 200 level Novara from the end of the full Shimano groupset era. I guess it must have had decent weather seals on the bearings because I can’t remember ever using anything but lots of WD-40 on it. I never worried about cleaning the chain because it rained a lot. It succumbed to a bent fork. |

The coop that I mentioned is not a college bike coop, it's a community bike coop, adding yet another layer of ignorance to your already incoherent rambling. Besides, anything that gets people out of their cars and onto a bike is environmentally friendly in my book.
I make ultraquick and quite broad logical connections and some people get left behind if they don't have the same catalogue of experiences to pull from. Most people don't, so don't be ashamed to ask. |

edit: Look, I'm probably the smartest guy on these forums (raw and applied). Sometimes I forgot to dial it back for here and lose people or inadvertently leave them behind. If that's the case just ask. I can assure that if when it seems incoherent that's a you thing and not a me thing. If something needs to be delivered in layperson speak, just ask and I can rectify the situation.

You forgot to include the appropriate smilies for this parody of a ridiculous rant from a sanctimonious blowhard; someone might think you were actually serious. That would be embarrassing, eh?
Just warming up for the dealings with the accessory people involved in raising my kid (nursery people and educators mostly.) Bonus points for usage of sanctimonious though :) |
I painted up an old Ross cruiser for my youngest daughter, the black painted rims & fenders gave it kind of an urban bike look I think. Got this bike for $10 at a neighborhood estate sale, so we didn't have much in it. Comfort seat and fenders were a plus for her at the time. She's now into cycling and has C&V road bikes.

Speaking of the smartest guy on these forums, anybody seen FBinNY lately? His profile page says he hasn't posted since April. I sent him a PM beginning of Aug and haven't heard back. |

I'm kinda worried for the worst, and surprised it seems nobody else here at BF seems to have noticed his absence

You could have solved more than one problem with this Craigslist ad.

I'll toss this in as a possibility.
Save up to 60% off new 650b and 27.5 Mountain Bikes - MTB - Gravity 29 SS Single Speed new 650b and 27.5 Mountain Bikes I've purchased/built about 4 bikes from these guys over the years and feel they offer good value for the money - especially in the lower price points, where the alternatives (X-mart) are inferior. Otherwise, a used bike is a great way to go. If your son is not much of a mechanic, might be best to get a consignment/used bike from a local shop and have them do a once over with the purchase. |
anything with horizontal dropouts and a freewheel hub is fair game..
5 speed hub re-centered, wheel de-dished, so recentered over the centered hub and a single cog freewheel .. takes care of the back.. |

He's got a bike now, a Nishiki Alamosa mtb. 27.5 with V-brakes, didn't even imagine that combination existed!
