What commuter bike
Hi all,
I'm new here on the forum, mainly expierenced with folding bikes. I have a Tern Verge P9, using it to commute in Brussels.
Now i'm changing jobs and have a 28k commute (one way), completely flat (one bridge but that's it). I'm looking for a bike which i'd use 75% of the time for this commute.
My requirements would be:
- Panniers
- mudguard compatible
- 2 bottles
- Wider tire clearance than standard race bicycle (and if possible also a more comfortable position)
- Dynamo hub compatible
Other than commuting i'd use it as a light bike packing bike. Bicycles i had a look at:
- Pinnacle Arkose (can't test it as there is no retailer in Belgium)
- Specialized Sequoia (tested it and loved it)
- Specialized Diverge
- Genesis croix de fer series
- New alpkit santiago (same issue as the Pinnacle, can't test them as there are no dealers in Belgium).
Material: Alu, steel, carbon, I don't really mind, as long as it meets the requirements above. What would you guys recommend and why? I find it very difficult to see what would be the ideal bike for this.
Any advice from you guys is welcome!

There's plenty of bikes in what you are looking for. Test-ride and pick the one you like most at a price that you are comfortable with. I'd argue that it's better to buy after a test-ride than without, unless you know exactly what you want. Maybe you know someone with a bike you are looking for?
I suspect that a Diverge will be on the lower end regarding tire clearance, compared to what you are stating. Definitely closer on the 'road' spectrum of gravel-ly bikes.
