Belt Drive or Chain for Winter?

Greetings.

As i’m about to decide on a new city commuter bike - I have been intrigued by belt drive bikes.

I have read some older i nformation saying that belt drive bikes did not fare well in snow.

Is this still the case?

i also bike in weather as cold as -35C - how do the belt drives stand up to that temperature? Fortunately it doesn’t get that cold for very long - but I still head out...

Thanks,

SparkyCanada

I thought a belt drive in a chain case would be Ideal ... as the grit still wears the sprockets.. of either..

Chains in chain cases tend to be under lubricated..

I like the idea of a case for a belt drive.

In my experience, the belt/sprocket assembly is very resistant to grime. A belt case would keep loose pant legs from binding, but is otherwise unnecessary.

In my view, the belt with center track groove is far superior to chains for winter commuting, but as others wrote, search the other threads on this topic.
