Non-black handlebar bags?
I spent a stupid amount of time on the South American river looking for a handlebar bag for Pretty Purple Princess Penelope, with minimal success; everything is either black, tiny, huge, or junk. I need a 2-3 L capacity bag that'll fit on my North Road bars. Hot pink is preferred, but purple or brown will work. I also spent SO. MUCH. MONEY on the bike that there's little left for accessories; no arms or legs, but I can probably afford a few fingers. Am I chasing a snark? Does such a thing exist?

I have three Dill Pickle bags, and my wife has two. They are not cheap but they are great bags. |
Can you sew? I would recommend shop ebay or amazon for a cheap hot pink lunchbag or camera bag or something, with a suitable size and shape, cut a few small openings in a seam, and sew in some velcro straps. Or maybe buy the parts and find a dry-cleaner that does full-service alternation work, and they'll probably only charge a few bucks to do that simple sewing job.

Purple
https://www.amazon.com/IUL-Outdoor-W...gateway&sr=8-1 Pink https://www.amazon.com/Urlite-Adjust...gateway&sr=8-3 The quality might not be the best in the world. But they are cheap. So it they wear out after a year or two....oh well. |
Hey that looks really good, actually! I'm going to double-check the size of my Jones H Loop bars and see if that would be a workable generic version of this. (Might have to learn sewing so I can attach a strap or two on the front side as well, or maybe poke holes and reinforce with press-on grommets and use zipties)

You will save money in the long run if you buy a high quality bag. You are a discerning buyer. I hear great things about the Dill Pickle Gear bags. Dig deeper and buy one. You will not regret it.

Thanks Skipjacks; I saw those and thought about it, but they're juist too small.
Cheap bags some in every color because they are cheap to produce. Expensive bags come in shades of grey/black because grey goes with nearly all bike colors and the manufacturers focus on high volume sellers. Occasionally you find one that comes in different accent colors like this one... https://www.amazon.com/YVO-Handlebar...60-spons&psc=1 Usually the accents are red, blue, or green (from my non scientific observations) But everyone once in a while you'll see a purple or orange or something a little more fun. You may just have to be patient on the purple bag. There was one floating around Amazon last year that came in all colors. But it looks like it's gone. |
Another option might be Swift Industries. This one is a nice loud shade of green, but Swift offers other colors and sizes. https://builtbyswift.com/shop/cascade-ozette-rando-bag/ |

It is bigger though. They also had hot pink at NAHBS - I got a pouch, so it is worth asking. |

Jaand has some nice looking options, some of which can be made in custom colors for a reasonable price.
I have the smaller handlebar bags in both Pink Kitty and Blue Lion to match my pink and blue bikes, respectively! |
Road Runner Bags' Burrito Supreme? Comes in purple, pink and several other colors. Not the cheapest thing but very excellent.

How about one of these? They make great bags for motorcycles, and $22.50 for a 3.5 liter bag that comes in red and royal blue isn't too far from your criteria. https://chaseharperusa.com/products/barrel-bag

Carradice makes a Barley saddlebag in burgundy:
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...969b649978.jpg Some people strap these to handlebars. I really like cotton duck Carradice bags - especially when they get worn and weathered a bit, like old blue jeans. If you decide to go with Carradice, shop around a bit - the prices vary a lot. |
I have a Rivendell bag, and it's good.
Or buy a black bag and decorate it. When my kids were in high school, we bought black suitcases for the whole family. I told my kids to decorate theirs for easy identification in airports. They were quite creative with paint. |
Duluth Pack bags are a bit pricey, but are guaranteed for life. https://www.duluthpack.com/products/candy-bar-bike-bag

You guys? Are Da Bomb!! So many awesome bags, and the Road Runner Burrito Supreme, in addition to having the best name, looks about perfect. Now I just have to rationalize the cost. This may take a while.
Thank you all so much for your time and effort! |
Something I have learned is that, when we are looking forward at a cost, things may seem expensive, but when we are looking backwards at a cost, they are usually much less painful. This is even true for purchases that I judge as not the best idea, like the over $1k we spent on a kirby vacuum that we bought from a door-to-door salesgirl with no chance for independent research.
This realization is maybe dangerous, if it enables a properly frugal person to slide towards being a mindless consumer, but I hereby grant you my official tightwad seal of approval to buy that roadrunner burrito supreme. |
Thanks RubeRad, but it's not frugality, it's lack of cashy money. That said, I've already spent a stoopid amount on the bike, might as well finish the job. ::takes a deep breath::
