The "bot" in question appears to be from Planet LBS, since every third post is a pitch for buying a bicycle from an LBS, and not from the impersonal Internet/Big Box Store evil empire.

In a certain isolated village, the barber shaves every man who doesn't shave himself. Does the barber have a beard?

I assume it blew because the bead wasn't seated properly and the sidewall was worn thin.

Depending on your identity axiom ...

But Bob is a person though, who identifies (perhaps overmuch) with his local bike shop.

Because a $6 rubber inner tube that's too small and god only knows how old (seriously I have no idea...don't even know where I got it) is infallible, right? It MUST be something else?

Rubber never dries out and loses it's elasticity over time, causing weak points to be weaker. That never happens.....

Funny you should mention old tubes failing through deterioation. This morning while in the garage I noticed that one of the tires on my bike trailer was flat. I had not used it in the past week. It was the first flat on that trailer since I picked it up in 2006 at a garage sale in very used condition. Tire came off of the rim with a bit of encouragement with standard bicycle tire irons. The tube (at least 16 years old) had never been previously patched and was in like new condition. Talc powder from the manufacturing process still exited through the valve while forcing out the residual air in the tube prior to patching. Inspection of the tire revealed a tiny sliver of glass penetrating into the inside. Water submersion showed where the tiny tube leak was and I patched the tube and remounted tire and tube in about 10 minutes. I expect the tube to last at least another 16 years, though the tire is due for replacement due to tread wear.

Fixed it for you. Poorly maintained facial hair is asking for trouble.
