I ride next to this section of woods everyday on my commute. I was wondering what all the police cars were about when I cycled by.

Body Discovered In Woods Near Southside Apartment Complex
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating the discovery of a teenage boy's body in a wooded area near an apartment complex at the 8900 block of Newton Road on the Southside.
The site, south of Beach and Southside boulevards, is near where a 14-year-old boy was reported missing Sunday, and there had been an active search for him. Police cannot say for certain that the body is that of the missing teen.
"We've got the body that was located," JSO Chief Steve Weintraub said. "It's gone to the medical examiner's office for further investigation. Next of kin has not been notified, so I can't release any other information about the body."
The body was found shortly after 1 p.m. in the woods behind Southwind Villas. The cause of death has not been determined, but foul play is suspected.

Rough.
Last summer for a while it seemed like every week or so, there was a shooting or stabbing on my way to or from work. (In reality, I think it was "only" 3 or 4--plus this one time where they were clearly hunting for someone, rolling around with a ton of cop cars and more ambulances than I could count on one hand.)

I keep waiting for my 15 minutes of fame, Headline: "Early-morning bicycle commuter makes grizzly discovery on path". Hopefully I'll be the commuter and not the grizzly discovery.

A few months ago, I had the unlucky experience of "finding" a dead body along an extension of my commuting route. I went out for a long (57 mile) weekend ride. As I was returning home, some kids started yelling at me from the brush beside the trail. I ignored them thinking they were harassing me, but then they yelled "help!" So, I stopped, turned back around and the kids had found a body between the trail and the nearby creek. I checked it out and sure enough, it looked like a dead guy. We called the cops on my cell phone (which I rarely carry). They arrived within minutes. Turns out the dead guy had his face eaten off by rodents or something! Yuck, glad I didn't look that closely!
All in all, an experience I could have done without...
And, for those that know Colorado Springs, this was along the New Sante Fe trail, right near downtown.

Well, that is sure something for the "What did you see on your ride today" thread. 2 hawks, some dogs, a turtle, and oh ya, a corpse.

I stopped to take a leak in the woods by our Rivertrail one day last summer. I saw 3-4 rough looking guys in the woods there. A couple days later, I read that a body had been found in the river there. It was a hobo who had been camping in the woods there--possibly one of the guys I saw.
