Commute form Crystal City to 50 & Glebe

Does anyone have any ideas for alternatives to go from the Crystal City area (specifically area of S. 23rd St. & Hayes) to just north of highway 50 on Glebe Road. A friend wants to start commuting by bike and has an e-bike but he's in his 50s so would prefer to avoid the busy roads. I cold probably find a route for him by trying various routes myself and trial and error but thought folks here might have some ideas, even if they are somewhat indirect.

Thanks,

James

Best bet is probably getting on the Four Mile Run Trail, W&OD Trail and then the side road along 50. Google Maps shows biking routes.

I have ridden on both four mile run and W&OD when in DC/Arlington area. DC area is fortunate to have many mostly connecting bike paths.

Link to possible route below :

Via Four Mile and W&OD

As in, a lot of people here take the long way around?

Well, OP said he was 50+, new to commuting, and wanted to avoid busy roads.
Four Mile Run and W&OD are nice separate facility bike/multi paths.
However, he could ride due north towards Pentagon then cut over north and west and still avoid much of the auto traffic.
Just not as nice an e-bike ride on separate facilities.
Also, once the guy gets started, there are many different route options in to Arlington on mostly residential streets.
Columbia Pike and Arlington Blvd are heavy auto traffic barriers, sort of...
