Another New Route!
After 20 years in the same home with the same job I figured out another new route to work. This makes the 4th, 5th or 6th depending on how unique you want to classify them. This incorporates the Sand Creek Trail which I only rode for the first time last week. Last time I checked a dozen years ago it wasn't paved. But it is now. Total length 8.3 miles, 35 minutes, vs. 7 miles/30 min for my most direct route, and 9 miles/40 min for my usual routes. Then there's the 11 mile/45 min Rock Island Trail route. And of course I can always add more miles when I feel like it.
Bottom line...what a nice change of scenery. |

FWIW Chelton (pronounced "shelton") is usually lousy with cars. I don't know what the deal was this particular morning, but I enjoyed the paucity of traffic. |

"How Often Do You Find Shortcuts?"
I have four basic one-way routes each 14 miles, with minor variations. In the nice weather I lengthen the routes for varying distances up to about 30 miles...

I'm very motivated by novelty, and stymied by boredom on a bike, but I do have the motivation of commuting to work.
I have found that when I drive my frequent, decades-old routes I often notice things I had not seen before. I think it’s because I can look around at more than just the road surface when driving. So when the commute [route] is getting too familiar, I just raise my head higher and look over a wider field of view…. |
