What are your gas prices like?

As I rode past a gas station today, I noticed that gas was 97 cents/litre here in Ottawa, the Capital of Canada. Now, I don't fill a car, but that got me thinking... 97 cents a litre eh? Let's see some numbers here:

To fill:

A small car, 40L = 38,80$
A large car, 60L = 58,20$
A Van/SUV, 80L = 77,60$
A pickup truck, 110L = 106,70$

Okay, now I'm not sure who can afford that, but I know I can't. Oh, and for my American friends, think of this, ~4L = 1 US Gallon, so gas for us here is 3,88$ for just 1 gallon!

So, what is gas like in your area?

Erick L 07-08-05 11:30 AM

1,03$ CAD/litre yesterday in Montreal.

Tree Trunk 07-08-05 11:31 AM

Gas? What's that?

When I left Canada (Osgoode actually, not far from you) I was paying 49 cents a litre. That was August 2001.

Today in Switzerland I'm paying CHF 1.40 which is the same in Canadian pesos.

Ciao for now.

I was wondering if there were any folks from Quebec here... seems you guys have higher Provincial tax on gas, because I've noticed as soon as I pass over into Hull, the prices increase!

I guess we're all headed to a dollar/L ... I've noticed in Hull with three digit signs, they just drop the decimal! heh

CPcyclist 07-08-05 11:41 AM

this past weekend was out to the inlaws (LaCross, Wi) payed $2.17/gl. when we got back home the same day to Madison, Wi the price was $2.25/gl. the last few day have seen the price pushing $2.30/gl. It is going to suck when I have to fill up again.

sbhikes 07-08-05 11:53 AM

When I fill up my Vespa with premium unleaded it is usually around $2.75 a gallon, but I've paid as much as $3 a gallon recently. I'm in Santa Barbara, which usually has the highest or near-highest gas prices in California, which usually has the highest or near-highest gas prices of all the states of the US.

mtbkanata 07-08-05 12:00 PM

Oh yeah, I guess I should mention that was for Regular Low-grade petrol.. I have no idea what the premium costs.. they don't advertise that on the road signs (Probably out of embarrasment!)

I havent driven my car in over a month, much less filled it up. I did see a sign around the corner from my house that said $2.25 for regular though.

joejack951 07-08-05 12:08 PM

$2.35 for regular and $2.60 for premium here in Wilmington, DE. That's the highest I've ever seen it. I only burn gas on the weekends my girlfriend and I head to the beach so it doesn't really bother me. Certainly doesn't seem to bother the H2 drivers in the area either.

eblaska 07-08-05 12:16 PM

It's flucuating between $2.35 and $2.50 a gallon for regular, here in Huntington Beach, CA.

Infodiva 07-08-05 12:58 PM

$2.25 or so here for regular unleaded. (Lincoln, Neb.)

Ubie 07-08-05 01:19 PM

I think i saw a sign for $2.49/gal for 87 here in NYC. I could be off a touch off though, gas signs just aren't something i pay attention too, that whole lack of car combined with the bike and a pretty kick tushie public transportation system and all.

jabowker 07-08-05 01:32 PM

About $2.08/gal but looks like it's about to go up a little.

halfbiked 07-08-05 02:00 PM

I can get diesel for around $2.25/gallon, though its been above $2.40 in the last year. New to town is a biodiesel co-op, where I can get soybean-based fuel for $2.75. I've done 3 tanks of that to no ill effect. Its great stuff!

linux_author 07-08-05 02:08 PM

- filled up this a.m. @ US$2.11 per gallon (prices fluctuate between stations in my area, so during the same day, one can find unleaded regular at up to $0.15 more per gallon)

Javan 07-08-05 02:18 PM

$2.43/gal in my town (chazy, NY)
$2.25/gal in vermont where I buy it.

randya 07-08-05 02:20 PM

$2.39 a gallon for regular downtown, probably $0.10 +/- less a little further out.

Roody 07-08-05 02:20 PM

Gas prices? Don't know, don't care. I just hope the price of PB&J doesn't go through the roof--that's my fuel!

dedhed 07-08-05 02:33 PM

It was $2.25 on wednesday night, $2.49 on Thursday morning.

Travelinguyrt 07-08-05 02:50 PM

I really dont care how much it costs as long as it is available.
Remember gas lines and violence while waiting?
Sides last time I went to store milk was 3.50$ per and water was close to 5.00$ per
but I drink it from the tap for free, tastes the same

*raises hands* there's quite a few ppl from quebec here I think (montreal myself).

And yah, ppl are complaining a whole lot about high gas prices, but they ain't gonna do much about it.

nitropowered 07-08-05 02:59 PM

It's $2.39 here in Athens, OH. It was $2.18 two days ago. Though my parents pay for gas, I stopped driving cause I can get just about anywhere I need to go in my area in just about the same time on my bike. Maybe a 5-10minute time penalty. I get a little sweaty, burn a few calories and get a little work out but who cares? I save [my parents] $20-30 a week. Justified them purchasing me a messenger bag.

doraemonkey 07-08-05 04:40 PM

Here in France, gas is going for 1.30 euro a liter for super. To give people living stateside an idea how lucky you are to have cheap gas, that would be about $5.80 a gallon at the current exchange rate. My last fill up came to more than 70 euros in my car... hopefully this will be the last. I am selling it and going all bike or train.
