Shimano 520 pedals scratch easily?
Well, I just got my first pair of cycling shoes and will be getting some pedals next.
I've heard the pdm-520's scratch easily. I will probably get these but was wondering whether the scratching problem only applies to the black ones and not the silver ones? |
They're pedals. You don't look at them, you ride on them. Every pair of clipless pedals I've ever had, from my Dura-Ace's (silver), to my first generation SPDs (black), to the current SPD's (black and silver) on my cyclocross bike have gotten hopelessly scraped and scuffed. And you know what?
They all still work beautifully. Now go get your pedals and ride. Chances are, you'll breeze by people so fast they won't even have a moment to glance at your pedals!!! Yes, your cleats are alloy. Your pedals are alloy. Metal on Metal on metal, they'll take a licking and keep on ticking. |
Sure, it's not a big deal. It's just what some of the mtbr.com reviews were saying about it 'weaknesses', so I was wondering whether the color had something to do with it.

They are going to get scratched period. So will your tires.

yup.. they scratch like mad... I have a set on my MTB that I commuted on for awhile and within a month or two they were pretty well scratched up. As stated above, it doesn't matter. :)

Yeah, pedals get scuffed. After a couple of weeks you won't care. |
At the risk of further ridicule :( I would've thought silver was the way to go since it's probably just the plain metal so it's not going to show the scratches as much

Seriously, I don't think it matters which ones you get, the M540's look OK too tho they cost a little more, but either way you have to see these things as a 'wear item' since you're feeling your way into them with a steel cleat every time you clip in so regardless of which one you get they will show those signs of wear. Even with signs of wear I think they still look good...... a bit like my wife ;) |
