My first year of commuting is complete
 

I started this commuting thing a year ago, July 19th. On January 19th I rode home after a 4” snowfall so I could reach 1000 miles at the 6 month point.

Spring semester at school had me swamped and I fell off the commuting wagon. May and June were extremely wet so I kept slipping off when I tried to jump back on.

June 19th came around and I only had 1500 miles… I cranked out 531 miles in the last 30 days so I could reach the 2000 mile mark for a 12 month period! I finished things off with a solo century in 90 degree heat with 97% humidity!

Excellent job. I won't commute in snow, and still have several months to go for first year.

You're riding about double what I am. It must be feeling good.

Very nice. I hit that milestone last month. Feels good, doesn't it? Unfortunately I can't claim to riding every day because of bad snow. But on days I didn't ride, I walked 2.5 miles (one-way) to a city bus stop. I haven't driven my car to work in over a year, then.

I did ride for most of the winter though. Studded MTB tires! Very stable.

I'm looking forward to the one year milestone, though I'm only half way there. In those six months of commuting, I've become addicted. At first, my friends said I was crazy for commuting on a bike. Now they think I'm crazy for keeping my car (or paying the insurance at least) as I hardly ever use it.

I don't commute when there is snow on the roads (tried it once and it was a little scary even with studded tires) so this winter in Cleveland was a bad year. Still there wasn't more than a dozen days I missed. I find there is very little that stops me from riding. Once youv'e ridden in weather you realize its not so bad. That includes rain, cold, wind, light snow, sleet, heat, etc. Its only the slippery snow covered roads that had me worried. Luckily (or unluckily) Cleveland use lots of salt and is good about plowing so once it stops snowing the roads are ready for riding quickly.

I don't remember the exact day, but I think my 3-year anniversary is this month. I also "fell off the wagon" for a few months once, when I had a big work project that kept my from having dependable hours and I didn't feel I could spend the extra time to ride. It happens, don't feel bad about it. As long as you get back on!

Nice job. It keeps it exciting to track miles and set goals too. Keeps me motivated.
