Hybrid fenders

Hello All,
I'm new to the forum but very impressed with the wealth of information that gets shared here. I just bought a hybrid for my daughter who uses it it to commute (Diamondback Maravista). This is the first bike I've ever fiddled with that has a front shock and therein lies my confusion.

I'm trying to find a set of full fenders that will mount to this bike. The front fork does not have a spot for a pass-through bolt that a fender can mount to. Can anyone recommend a good set of fenders that will fit this bike? It has the 28X1 5/8 tires. Thanks in advance, I appreciate any advise given.

I haven't seen these on a bike so I'm not sure if they'll work but have you looked at the Planet Bike Flipper fenders?

I think I would break out a drill and put a hole in the brake mounting bar that runs from one side of the fork to the other. A suitable size hole would not affect the bike's strength or durability and once you've got the bolt hole then you can mount any set of standard fenders. That way you get the benefit of full fenders which can be found reasonably cheap.

My LBS got a Planet Bike rear fender for our Adams Trail-a-Bike. The flimsy plastic atachements were already going to pieces after one week. The store owner and I agreed it was horribly enginered. He riveted on some metal hardware to mount the fenders more securely.

You know, I was thinking about that option myself. I'm just worried that the metal will be weakened too much by the hole. It looks like a pretty "pottie" alloy to begin with, plus it doesn't have a flat face.
