No real blood loss
good morning, Well friday I was cruising home and decided to do the longer route by taking the bike trail most of the way home. all was well untill I decided to get off the trail and hop onto the roads well it look as though some snotty azz juvinals or ?? planted a booby trap of glass right where ya get back on the street. yeppers a flat it was a nice green triangular piece of glass cut right through my kevlar belted rear tire with only 200 miles on it. Heres the blood part MOSQUITOS 100S OF THEM!!!! I had to pull off the road along side a wooded/swampy area as the only safe place to work . Im sure the flying hypo needles took a pint or two. actally some of the skeeters were big enough to see tail numbers looks like I may add a tiny bottle of insect repellent or wipes (do they make wipes) to the tool kjt cuz the bug activity was nasty and I hate Mosquitos , ill take black flies any day over skeeters. have a great ride happy spinning. I dunno how effective DEET is after being out in the open. But you can always but a bottle of the industrial stuff DEET, 50%, completely soak a bounty towel in it. Then bag it in 2 zip loc bags. If the time comes, whip it out and wipe yourself with it. If the fly situation's that bad, you'll put up with the poison on you for a while. Don't forget to bring a few packets of sanitary wipes to wipe yourself and your hands down afterwards.

Heh, I still have an old bottle of 96% DEET repellant... Now THAT stuff works. ;)

You can buy small pump bottles of DEET; it's also available in individual wipes. The bottle is probably easier to use and cheaper per use, the wipes, of course, are smaller and lighter.

I 'member that stuff. About 20 years ago I went to Alaska via the Alaska-Canadian Highway ("the highway") with my boyfriend(now husband). We were driving his 60 bug and camping, living on very little money and eating almost nothing through Canada except fried eggs and pancakes (one of my husband's personal "soul food" meals). We started to pitch our tent by a lake, and the skeeters attacked. I dove into the tent with my boyfriend laughing at me; I HATE things flying around my face! Next day we bought some 95% deet in Whitehorse, Canada. We used very little, according to directions, literally 6 drops of the stuff for each of us. We lightly passed our hands with the deet on them all over our bodies and lightly over our hair. We sat for lunch (more eggs and pancakes) and we could see the mosquitoes flying around trying to land on each of us, but they would come close, attempt a touchdown and immediately take off; they really couldn't stand the deet. I was happy--no skeeters in my face or ears. That stuff worked great! Of course you couldn't stand to close to a fire, and the stuff would dissolve certain plastice and was/is somewhat poisonous. . .but d@mn, it worked! |
Every misquito repellent still contains deet, though generally in much lower concentrations. That way you can just soak yourself in a can of Off without getting cancer.
Me, I'll buy the little bottle of deet and just use a few drops, thanks. |
