Gloves

Commuting in winter I wear full gloves.gloves but my hands sweat a fair bit. Other than a second pair for the way home is there any tips for not having damp gloves that people have found?

There is no way to dry a pair of gloves quickly, especially those using suede or synthetic suede. palms with padding. I would suggest you just use saw dust or some other form of dry grip powder., which will gunk up your gloves but will keep them drier for the day and lyou can clean it at home and let it dry overnight. I alternate 3 pairs of gel gloves. I never ride without gloves.

45NRTH Pogies solved just about all my winter glove issues. I only bring warm gloves/mitts to wear when I'm not riding - normal summer gloves is what I ride with year round now.

Road Rash has taught me the value of gloves. Damp, stinky, hot or cold weather I wear them for protection. Cheap cotton liners help allot...

Double mittens. Leather outers, wool or synthetlc wool-like inners. Pull the inner out when you get to work. Easy. And while riding and it warms up, pull the inners out and ride just the leather outer.

Look for deerskin "chopper mitts". Keep the leather treated with Snowseal. (Twice a year works for me.) Buy the mitts in the biggest size you can find. I have thin but long hands. Large is too small. XL OK. XXL my fav but hard to find.

I've been riding that combo since the '70s. It simply works. (Although some modern shifters might be a challenge. I put away my derailleur bikes for the salt and snow months and ride fixed so I'm in bliss.)

In the past at my old job when I arrived with wet gloves I turned my gloves inside out and stuck them in front of a big box fan in the warehouse. I think that worked pretty well.

I googled "glove dryer" just now and there are some electric forced air dryers that don't look too expensive...especially if this is an issue that happens often.

you might browse the winter sub-forum for tips. lots of threads focusing on hands

https://www.bikeforums.net/winter-cycling/

fwiw - I'm also a fan of bar-mitts. takes the pressure off finding the perfect glove (which doesn't exist)

One key is to have multiple gloves with varying temperature ranges, then wear a pair that's not quite uncomfortably cold on the way to work. Your hands will sweat less, so there's less sweat to evaporate before the homeward trip.

I thought it was a great question by the op and informative answers. I personally have never tried to ride in the winter but plan on doing so this winter. I now know what to look for this fall.

Well if the OP is in the Southern Hemisphere, it's actually winter? Let's not make assumptions until someone actually does something?

It wasn't that, more like gentle ribbing for a low-consequence faux pas from l'enfant terrible.

rumrunn6 really took it over the top, though
