greyhound and bike racks, rather the lack of
im curious as to why greyhound does not put bike racks on the front of their busses
in columbus all of the city busses are equipped with front mount racks that are fairly simple to use/install
it would be really awesome for full time commuters if greyhound did the same thing because
disassembling and reassembling gets old
ideally one could ride to the bus station load it on the front and upon arrival to their destination take it off and have it to ride, without any hassle

Because those racks only hold 2 bikes. If the bus comes and the rack is filled up, you wait twenty minutes for another bus. What do you do when you're going from Memphis to Boston and the bus is filled up? There are many other reasons I can think of that I won't list, but Greyhound DOES ship bikes for not a bad fee.

Greyhound is a long-haul carrier. Dwell time is not as important as it is with a city bus service. Having a bike not come off the front of the bus at 70 mph is much more important. Instead you must box your bike. Between some cities you can travel with it unboxed in the cargo bin.
This is what I do when I take my bike to New York. (unboxed)
edit: bike carriage itself is free but you may have to spend $10 on the box if you can't travel with it unboxed.

Can you imagine all the insects you would have to clean off your bike after a good greyhound ride?

perhaps it really isnt that practical but my problem with boxing up my bike
is getting a large awkward box to the bus station so that i can box it up before getting on the bus

You can buy them at the counter. Ride to the station with a wrench for your pedals and hex wrenches for your stem and bars. Buy the box at the counter, and package it on site.
