Fast Commute to Work...
Come along on my fast, eight-mile commute to work, on the Rock-Island Line to Greenway Trail MUP route in Colorado Springs. I averaged 16.2mph (17.4mph before the final 3/4-mile uphill section). On my 6-mile surface-street routes I average 12.5mph on this bike.
There are a few gravel sections and the 26x2.125" Fincci smoothies do just fine, and they really grip on pavement! Ten years ago I replaced the original cantilever brakes on my 1997 Nishiki Blazer with V-brakes which can quickly haul down this 40-pound bike (with rack and accessories). When I encounter the squirrel, you can hear the rear tire lock up at 20+ mph.
Even at 62, when I'm bombing down the trails I still feel like the 14-year-old me tearing through the Cook County Forrest Preserve trails on Chicago's north side.
I LOVE bike commuting...sun, rain, snow and wind. Okay...NOT wind.

Nice work! That's close to what my 12,5 mile commute looks like, just add more homeless camps and squirrels.
What I find amusing is that I average a few mph faster and a few minutes shorter on my 1994 steel mountain bike than my new Gen 4 FX3.
