Here's a matter close to our hearts
 

Angry cyclist call the cops on a teen who passed him too closely, but since he got too aggressive with the kid, HE got cited instead.

The cyclist said the teen should check his dash cam. IMO, If he did indeed have a dash cam, the cop should've checked that footage and possibly cited the teen too.

What are your thoughts on this?

One thing we can probably agree on is that cameras everywhere keeps things honest. :D

Too bad it has come to that.

The "article" posted by I-Like-To-Bike is one of those silly news to entertainment websites where maybe there is a tiny lick of truth mixed in with gifs, memes and social media crap. They are quite annoying when trying to find the truth of what happened but a common theme in our society either those or short video sites or just random junk of social media. The news is hard to extract from the silly stuff that people feel the need to add on.

I think a lot of road users can easily get aggressive and because cars have generally been less friendly cyclists can harbor some feelings that don't always turn out well which is certainly at least part of the case here. I think it would behoove everyone to tone done the aggression unless it is truly warranted where someone actually tries to hurt you. We could do with a little deep breath and a quick moment to think.

I think feeling the need to call the police all the time over everything is silly as they rarely will help cyclists and in many cases that I have been involved with they actually impede things or make them so much worse that you regret them being involved at all.

You seem to have figured out the news and truth about this entitled jerk's actions from the posted web site despite the article not meeting your standard for journalistic purity. You even managed to figure out that Mr. Peacock was acting aggressively and deduced that his unjustified, unlawful behavior may be because he is "harboring feelings" from who knows what, but I am sure you can imagine something.

You are mad at me because you posted from a website like that, sorry you couldn't figure it out before you posted it. If you think I was there to attack you it was not designed as an attack on you but an attack on that site. If you have a stake in that website then I am sure judging things these days you will make some money so don't get mad at me.

Being someone who rides a bike in traffic and understands aggression and I had seen the video beforehand and looked into it briefly so it is not rocket science as to what happened.

I cannot imagine you haven't had a bad interaction with a car or a person (unless you don't ride on the road or anywhere with people) but it happens and sometimes frequently. I know people do it in cars all the time so if they can do it so can we and sometimes it comes out as aggression because it does for cars. Again not rocket science here just human nature and stuff we have all seen before unless we live under a rock.

Self-righteousness

When I started running a helmet cam 12 years ago two of the things I noticed was how adrenaline could cause me to over-estimate the threat level from other vehicles in traffic, and also how much I could over-react.

Not that I've become less cautious, but I do temper my reactions now since I know I'm being recorded (by me).

One thing about these action cams though is that the ultra-wide angle lens makes things look further away than they are. When someone passes you closely, you know it is less than 2' because you could easily reach out and touch their side mirror. In the video, it looks like we have loads of room.
