Commute Scenery Pics....

Hey,

Anyone have pics of the scenery of their commute?

Heres my contribution:

From a 40 mile round trip to Fremont and back... :D

nice pics!

I have a friend who lives in fremont and often rides to coyote hills area on an MUP. I thought of riding to his house in fremont before, but each time i try to choose a route i end up looking sout of the bay, like taking San Tomas to N. First st then through milpitas. I think taking the bridge might be better.

Hows riding on the bridge? I've never been across it, not even in a car.

Man, I bet I have the ugliest commute here. Nothing but cars, subdivisions, wallmarts and strip malls for 9 miles each way. I really can't even think of any trees along the roads. Pictures would be a waste of band space.

Here is one not so good picture of my commute as I go towards the Nations Capital.

In the foreground is the Potomac River with Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Mounment in the background.

Agreed. My commute is no better looking than yours. The only interesting items on my commute are Fort George S. Meade (home of the NSA) and the Patuxent Institute prison. I really dont want to take a picture of either.

Jack:

The building you work in almost looks like the bike shop that I bought a bike from when I was at Duke for graduate school in 1983.

East Duke Bldg, ca.1904

^ Actually, I work on East Campus ^ - I don't work at that bike shop, if that's what you mean...
The LBS in my pics has been around for a while... but from 1983, you probably remember Bull City Bikes (or Cycles?). Bull City Bikes is actually where my 1983 Motobecane GT was purchased new by its previous owner... small world, huh? Sadly, that place went out of biz a few years ago...

As far as commute scenery goes, I consider myself lucky. I wish I had sweeping vistas, or a ride through a park or garden, but small-town campus commuting is alot of fun, nonetheless. I wish I had a body of water to ride by, though...

It's not bad. The bike path on the bridge is rather narrow, and theres just enough room to pass another cyclist going the other way (Theres a separate bike path section on one side of the bridge for cyclists used for going both directions). Big headwind as I went through to Fremont, and I barely made 15 mph going down to the otherside of the bridge.

Your commute is really nice. What's up with all the FBI vans?

What way did you get through Milpitas, and how did you get there? I ride up Old Oakland Rd, it becomes Abel, then turn on Milpitas Blvd, and keep going when it becomes Warm Springs. What part of Fremont are you riding to? You could always ride over to Piedmont(White?) and head north. Follow it all the way through Milpitas to where it turns and comes down to Park Victoria, at the end of Jacklin. Turn right at that intersection and follow it up the hill. When you get to a stop sign at the top, turn left and you're on Scott Creek Rd. Turn right on Warm Springs and head up.

My knee has been bad since April, but I'm thinking of trying it out on the club ride Sunday. We'll be riding over the Dumbarton Bridge from Newark.

Wow, people, you have some scenic commute! Aren't you lucky! My commute is all through pretty boring, sometimes ugly and mostly trafficky streets. There really is nothing remarkable the whole way. Still, the idea is interesting. Maybe next time I go I take a camera along. :)

Don't be so certain. I enjoy the luxury of a bike path (a torn up, hazardous bike path, but a bike path nonetheless), however the scenery consists entirely of supermarkets, corner stores, various neglected small business' buildings, and a big gray overpasses. It's all very decrepit and disgusting looking. Even the bike path, which is paved, is covered in a thin layer of dirt due to the construction projects that are always right next to it and fencing segments of it off. Here's what it looked like once upon a time (the good old days, see the trees?):

No large greenspace on my commute, no water, not even a pretty bike path.

*sigh* i need to move...

Some images here (if my host is not screwing up again):

I found two new routes since I took those pictures. Scenery isn't any better but the road conditions are better and I don't have to zig-zag all over to avoid potholes. There's a section not photographed. It's a residential area with good tree cover. Looks nice in fall.

Hmm, I was riding a couple of days ago and saw a semi, you know, one of those BIG trucks, on its side on Bowers just north of Kifer. Ouch! Cops around, another trucker and a driver, who knows how it happened. I need to start carrying a camera everywhere. That poor guy who flipped his truck has some 'splainin' to do to his boss!

These were taken on my commute last year. Still doing the same route and loving it. Can't wait for the foliage this year!

Well...Amarillo has many faces. LOL I happen to live in a historical neighborhood and work downtown, so all but about four blocks are on brick streets (which are pretty, but bumpy) and it is quite tranquil. I probably wouldn't enjoy my commute so much if it was across town by the mall or something. And yes, it's pretty hot...I'd say 90-105 F from April to September, but it's also pretty dry here, so that helps. It's just that darn wind that gets you!

gudel's city looks really nice. We have a few ponds and small lakes here, but that's it. The funny thing is, my next door neighbor has a boat in his front lawn (you can kind of see it in my first pic) and I can't for the life of me figure out why!

Here's the link to shots from my commute. The shot below is of Old Salem, this represents the worst traffic on my ride home.

Wow, those are nice. Not just good scenery, but beautifully composed.
