Any Trek 7700FX or 7300FX riders
Can a Trek 7300FX or 7700FX rider tell me how tall they are? The thing is i am really interested in this bike, but i can test ride it because the only way to get is order it straight from the factory by the LBS. So i need you to please tell me how tall are you guys and what sizes are your bikes so i can make a conclusion about the bike size. I am 7 feet tall (1.80 cm).
Thanks for answering! Also can you tell how good this bike is? It's a light bike? It's fast? |
You know, there is a Trek 7500FX in between those two. I ride a 22.5" frame, and am 6'4". What's the biggest frame you can get, 25"? That might be big enough for you, but honestly they don't usually make bikes for guys your size...
As far as handling and speed, my 7500FX is the fastest bike I've ever owned. It is light, and the tires are nice quick slicks. It's got lots of braze-ons for fenders, racks, etc. I'd recommend it, if the 25" frame fits you. |
My boyfriend rides 7500FX with a 20" frame and he is about 5'9". Interestingly, I ride a 17.5" Marin and our top tube are at the same level. So the measurements really do differ for different manufacturers. I 22" bike from Trek would be smaller than a 22" bike from Marin, say.

By the way, 7 feet is 213.5 cm, not 180 cm (and certainly not 1.80). 180 cm is about 6 feet.

My dad is 6' exactly and rides a 20" 7300FX. I'm 5'8" and can fit on his bike but I'm way more stretched out than you should be on a hybrid. It feels normal to me since I'm used to a road bike though.

I'm 5'10" with a 34" inseam and fit on a 17.5 and a 20" in the trek fx series. Both seem ok - I prefer the 20".
Two things. The new treks will soon be out - the 7500 is known as the 7.5. There's a 7.6 which is between the current 7500 and 7700 in price and features. I was originally interested in the trek fx but I just kept riding an old 10 speed all summer just to see what kind of riding I would really do and to see if I really wanted to sit upright on a bike. I decided on a cyclocross - wider tires, brakes on the top bar, lighter weight and more positions for riding. But the big thing at this time of year is the price - $200 off of list price. The trek fx bikes sell very well and you probably won't be able to get them on sale. I wouldn't buy the bike without riding it - just my personal opinion. Although as my brother pointed out to me, any bike I bought would be better than what I'm riding now; and I'd probably like it more - so maybe riding before you buy doesn't matter. |
Where can i see the new trek models for 2006?

'05 7700 FX
17.5" Frame 5'7" |
I was looking at the Trek 7300FX but the LBS didn't have it in my size (22.5"). The Gary Fisher Nirvana (which is what I ended up getting) is very near equivalent to the 7300FX. You might want to look into that if there are Nirvanas in your size.

I haven't seen anything official online but I emailed trek and they will send me a catalog.

Just a thought, incanus. Since the trek models are spaced from 17.5" to 20' - a big gap - can you ride any similar bicycle to get an idea of the size? The bike shop people here tell me that something like 80 - 90% of people take the 17.5" by the way.

I am 5'11" with a 31-inch inseam (pant size). My 7300FX is a 20". The 17.5 felt a bit small. I have a clearance over the top tube of about an inch on the 20-incher when I dismount. The fit feels pretty good, though I am not 100% sure whether I am in the most ergonomically correct state on the bike. It it matters, my upper body and arms are fairly long.
The bike is light and very good. It is a good commuter. If speed is your primary concern, a road bike may be better. Re: "I am 7 feet tall (1.80 cm)". 7 feet would put you around 213cm. Do you mean 6' and 180cm? |
I'm 5'9" and ride a 20" 7700 FX
You can get that bike in a 25! I've had it for 2 years now, and it is a fantastic bike. You might be able to get a deal like i did and get one sent to you from inventory before the new models come out. |
