Don't go between buses!
I gotta admit, I slipped up, I don't know what I was thinking. I went between a bus today as it was inching towards the red light and ended up almost jammed between the bus and a car. The driver saw me just as I was about to get crushed and stopped the bus. I basically had no room left between my drop bars and ended up walking the bike holding onto the tops till I cleared the bus, I gave the driver a wave and took off.
I don't now what I was thinking, it was stupid and I hope none of you ever do anything like that. |
i think of getting smooshed between two busses the way surfers must think of a shark attack...
glad you made it! |
You NY'ers got more ballz than brains sometimes  :p
Good to see that you're still in one piece :) |
Dayum sl-slim-to-none-void!!! I think the buses around these parts would love an opportunity to get back at some bikes here... They do not like bicycles at all here. The bus drivers that is... at least the one I have ridden

Of course the big question is, how the heck does a 32 year old learn to surf? ;) I should also point out that scuba divers don't sit around thinking about shark attacks either. Riding my bike to work is far more dangerous than diving. |
Yeah we really should have a regional forum, for the big cities you know.
I haven't registered for the TA century yet, I'll probably end up cutting in at like 60th and broadway or something with my gf. It should be an easy enough ride. Either that or we were gonna bike up river road and down 9W. |

This thread reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw for a bike/surf shop in Wells, Maine: We don't care how you do it in California! :D
Oh, yeah -- glad you're okay, slvoid! |
I nearly got squished between two trucks at an intersection (45th & 10th, IIRC) recently. Gridlock, so I started to move through but didn't realize there was a truck turning into the gridlock... as another tried to slowly maneuver through. Yikes!
BTW, I'm doing the TA NYC Century. Wheezl, linky for regional forum thread? |

That's scary slvoid. Here's another no-no: Passing a momentarily stopped bus on the left as it suddenly begins to accelerate and leave the biker in no-man land. I've learned to just lay back and wait, unless its transitioning a person in a wc.

My opinion is that if there are 3 people getting ready to board the bus and none have yet stepped inside, I will make a pass regardless since the bus is not going to move in the next 10 seconds. However, If I see the last person stepping inside the bus then it may very well start moving as some drivers pull out right after the last person boards even though the money hasn't entered the fair box yet. Should this happen, I would probably wait behind the bus. YUK! |
Glad you're OK.
A good reminder for us all to be careful. I'm glad it's just a reminder !! |
I've done that... almost exactly. I was thinking of posting it on the "stupid things you've done commuting" post even. It seemed brilliant right before I did it but turned out not to be. Glad you made it OK.

I don't think it's a reminder for us to be careful, it's more of a reminder for us to not be stupid.

Damn, that's scary! Talk about a tight squeeze! I also like the idea of "regional forums".
